TheNintendo Switch 2isn’t even out yet, and you can already invalidate one of the console’s new innovations with one neat trick.
During thebig Switch 2 reveal Direct, we got a look at some interesting gizmos and gadgetsNintendocame up with to help move copies. Among them, a way to get the PC gaming experience on a home console. you may use the console’s controllers in mouse mode!

Alternatively, just buy a USB mouse.
Massive Day-One Patch Means No Switch 2 Reviews Until Launch
An unconfident launch or a necessary evil?
No, really. It’s just that simple. Ina recent livestreamfromKoei Tecmo, producer Michi Ryu was showing off their progress on Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening CE. During the stream, he shows off how easy it is to switch from JoyCon mouse controls to an actual USB mouse.

It really is just plug-and-play.
Ryu explained the exact ins-and-outs of the process (thanks,Insider Gaming), but don’t worry, it’s pretty short: “Once you connect the USB mouse, a message will appear in the top left indicating that the mouse is connected. When the USB mouse is connected, it takes priority over the Joy-Con 2.”
There are still a few things we don’t know about the Nintendo Switch 2’s USB mouse support. Namely, how many games are actually compatible with it.

Based on how the compatibility seems to come from the console itself, it wouldn’t be surprising if every game that supports JoyCon mouse controls also supported USB mice.
And of course, support for USB mice does not confirm connectivity by other means. Such as for Bluetooth connections.

Nonetheless, the option to play with a USB mouse is certainly a convenient one. It’ll make playing games designed for PC much easier on the Nintendo Switch 2. Remember all those awkward menus in games likeWarframeorDestiny? Ones obviously intended for clicking? Not a problem anymore.
Nintendo Switch 2 Mouse Compatibility Is Easy, Effective, And Very Cheap
Here’s a fun fact: you own a USB mouse. If you somehow don’t, they’re still much, much cheaper than a new pair of JoyCons, and they don’t have Nintendo’scommonplace stick drift issue.
As cool as it is to just turn your controller 90 degrees and start using mouse controls, the innovation is certainly undercut by just plugging in a more familiar option.

How To Choose The Right Gaming Mouse
Here’s everything to consider when you’re looking for the gaming mouse that’s right for you.
All that’s left is to add USB keyboard support as well, and suddenly the Nintendo Switch 2 is a bit of a one-stop shop for just about every gaming experience you could want.
Handheld, console, and PC-style gaming, the only option left is VR support. Which, in fairness, probably can’t be solved quite this easily.
Don’t Expect This Nintendo Switch 2 Feature To Be Popular At Launch
There’s a lot to look forward to with the Nintendo Switch 2, but this new feature isn’t exactly popular with fans.
