The currentNintendo Switch, a console that’s almost 8 years old at this point, currently offers 147 free options for your account’s profile picture. That seems like a lot (because it is, let’s be honest), butNintendointends to push the envelope just a little further for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
While you’re still not allowed to upload your own images and use them as a profile icon, the Nintendo Switch 2 does offer a few extra choices as free default options. An extra 111 of them, in fact! The Nintendo Switch 2 offers 258 profile icons by default.
I’ve been rocking dinosaur Mario since I first got my hands on a Switch, but I won’t lie, some of these new options are very tempting.
In particular, the default profile icon offerings now include every single starter Pokémon. Yes, all of them - the existence of the Let’s Go games means Pikachu and Eevee both count here! There’s also a standard Pokéball option, if you’d rather be represented by an orb than awonderful little guy.
Nintendo Switch Update Angers Fans As Popular Game Sharing Loophole Is Closed Off
It looks like Nintendo is preparing for the Switch 2’s launch by cracking down on digital game sharing.
It’s worth noting that the original Nintendo Switch didn’t launch with all 147 icons at first. Many of them must be acquired separately, and you’ll need to fork over some cash if you want to complete the collection.
Not so for the Nintendo Switch 2 - these are all free. You’ll get your console, you’ll get your icons.
Other franchises that get new profile icons include Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, Kirby, The Legend of Zelda, and of course, Mario.
It’s suspected that Nintendo will continue their extra offerings for yet more profile icons beyond this 258, so if none of them strike your fancy, other options will likely be made available. Nintendo has not yet released any statements to confirm this, but like, come on. Money.
