While Final Fantasy 16 is set to continue the decades-long tradition of the Final Fantasy series, certain staples of the established series' unique style will be deliberately toned down in the upcoming installment. In an interview held with the Japanese video games outlet 4gamer in February this year, Final Fantasy 16 Director Naoki Yoshida (oftentimes referred to as simply Yoshi-P) discussed that, unlike Final Fantasies before it, Final Fantasy 16won’t require grindingin order to advance the story. “Just by following the story,” Yoshi-P explained, “it’s possible to reach the recommended level without having to think about experience points.”

Many longtime Final Fantasy fans have expressed concern regarding the game’s balancing of RPG elements with modern action gameplay. Acknowledging these concerns during a panel held at last month’s PAX East, Yoshi-P assured fans that more information on Final Fantasy 16’s in-game RPG elements would be revealed in April. With the upcoming April State Of Play set to dedicate 20 minutes exclusively to Final Fantasy 16’s gameplay, one can reasonably expect that the showcase will bring some of the game’s RPG-leaning elements to light.
