If today’sSmashcharacter reveal didn’t impress you withMin Min fromARMS, the game’s new Mii Fighter costumes might just do the trick. The five new costumes revealed for your custom made Miis continue the ongoing trend of including series that have had no ties toSuper Smash Brosever before, including some outlandish ones. If you thought it was wild seeing a Mii dressed as Sans fromUndertale, wait untilFallout’s Vault Boy is blasting Mario with a laser pistol.
As unbelievable as it is, Vault Boy, the icon of theFalloutfranchise, is heading toSmashas a Mii fighter costume, specifically for the Gunner variant. Along with Vault Boy, you’ll also be able to dress up your Miis as Ninjara fromARMS, Heihachi ofTekkenand the Squid Sisters ofSplatoon, Callie and Marie. These new costumes come out June 29 alongside Min Min for just $0.75 a piece.
Picking up these Mii fighter costumes doesn’t just give you an alternate look for your custom characters, they also change the game in some small ways. After revealing the latest round of costumes, Masahiro Sakurai went on to reveal that purchasing them will also affect Spirit battles. The example Sakurai gave revolved around spirit battles with Cuphead. Without the Mii fighter costume downloaded, players will usually fight against a red Mega Man. However, those heading into this spirit battle with the costume will instead find themselves fighting against a Mii Gunner dressed as the character. Assumedly this would extend to other spirit battles against other unique characters.
The reveal of today’s Mii Fighter costumes continues one of my favorite parts ofSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate- the inclusion of characters you would never expect to find in the series. Along with branching out in its main roster, including characters like Banjo & Kazooie for instance, it’s starting to seem more and more likeSmashis open for just about any game character. If you’re one of those folks holding out forKingdom Heart’s Sora inSmashor evenHalo’s Master Chief, at this point I would say anything is possible. Just don’t expect them to be full-on characters, but instead Mii Fighter costumes.
