Earlier in the week, we saw Netflix’sThe Witchercreator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich coming under fire during a discussion on Twitter regarding diversity in the writers the show hires. A disgruntled member of the public posed a question to Lauren asking her “How about you educate us by explaining what makes those “incredibly talented” people so talented. Or do you expect all witcher fans to reflexively applaud diversity, even at the cost of talent?”. Lauren gave a cool and calm response that you canread about here. Regardless of whether you enjoyed Netflix’sThe Witcheror not, the fact that it tracked to be thestreaming platform’s biggestseason one TV series ever speaks volumes and it looks like we will be getting more of it sooner rather than later as rumors suggest season 2 could commence as soon as August.
After more than two months on hiatus due to productioncoming to a halton Season 2 because of the COVID-19 outbreak,Deadlinehas reported that Arborfield Studios are to resume filming again at their studio sites. Arborfield is the main studio in London that Netflix uses to film and produceThe Witcherseries. In a discussion with Deadline, managing director Bob Terry told the news site that work is underway to reopen the studio along with sister studio Longcross, where the likes ofCaptain PhillipsandSkyfallhave been filmed. Terry said that he will be conducting meetings throughout the next two weeks to finalize safety procedures.
Here’s hopingThe WitcherSeason 2 gets underway soon and if it does, it’s likely we will see what happens next sometime in 2021 (if we haven’t been taken over by aliens that is). On a happier note though,season 2will be made and we will, at some stage, get to lay eyes on it. As a hugeWitcherfan of the game and of the TV show, this is music to my ears. Lauren S. Hissrich gushedon Twitterabout her excitement that her show is being renewed stating “I could not be more proud of what the amazing cast and crew ofThe Witcherhave accomplished, and can’t wait for the world to dig in and enjoy these stories with us,” whilst attaching an image of two swords from the show to her tweet as well.
Also, when season 2 does land on Netflix, we will be greeted by a fewnew facesthat will be joining the cast ofThe Witcher.The seven new cast members to join the series is Yasen Atour as Coen, Agnes Bjorn as Vereena, Paul Bullion as Lambert, Kristofer Hivju as Nivellen, Thue Ersted Rasmussen as Eskel, Aisha Fabienne Ross as Lydia and Mecia Simson as Francesca. For those of you who loveKilling Eve, you’ll notice a familiar face in the next season. Kim Bodnia, who plays the role of Konstantin in the spy-action thriller, will play Geralt’s father figure and the oldestWitcheron the continent,Vesemir.
