The world of Batman hasn’t lost its appeal one bit as fans want to see more projects with the Dark Knight in them. However, fans do have a problem with who owns the IP at the moment: Warner Bros. Fans have been demanding several popular projects and the studio appears to pay no attention to any of these requests.

As the mainstream studio turns a blind eye toward these projects, one fan has taken it upon himself to create a short film,Batman Beyond: Year One. Michael Yu created a less-than-15-minute film casting some known actors like Ryan Potter. Other fans have praised the project and shared that Yu has done a fantastic job.
Michael Yu’sBatman BeyondProject Should Be Enough To Convince WB
Michael Yu wrote, co-produced, and directed the superhero fan film based on theBatman Beyondstoryline, titledBatman Beyond: Year One. The film was crowdfunded throughIndiegogoandKickstarter, and was released on YouTube a couple of days back. The film starredRyan Potter, Isabelle Hahn, Fiona Dorn, and Koki Tomlinson.
The film explores Terry McGinnis, a high schooler, as the new Batman who fights crime under the supervision of a now-retired Bruce Wayne. Yu’s plot is intriguing and the production design of the film, portraying a futuristic Neo Gotham City, matches up to Matt Reeves’ universe. Fans also praised the cinematography and the costumes in the film.

It’s insane how Batman Beyond was denied a live action movie and a SpiderVerse animation style movie and this man Michael Yu did what Warner Bros refused to do!An amazing short fan film, the production design, cinematography and costume were all on pointpic.twitter.com/koypEeZKc4https://t.co/OQE8Aa8SMP
Fans were in complete disbelief that Yu could make a fantasticBatmanfilm within a budget of $54,632. It is likely thatYu’s effort could turn fans against Warner Bros., who has been pushing aBatman Beyondproject for so long. Some of the fan reactions read:

Dude, just watched it today I was absolutely blown away by it, the visuals, the fight scenes, the story, perfect, great job!! 🦇👍🏻
Hope wb or James Gunn watches and rethinks.

This Batman Beyond fan film is schway af and perfectly captures that animated show energyYou would think with the Batman oversaturation, WB woulda embraced one of the coolest extensions of the loreJames Gunn needs to resurrect my goat Terry and unleash his potentialpic.twitter.com/JHfQIV6GHp
Clear Bladerunner influences! Nice little fan film! Very well done! Suit looked fantastic.

I think this short film was really well made! Showed how terry uses the new suit well and his relationship with Wayne. If I were to change anything, it would maybe be the writing at some parts and the lighting in the initial fight scene with the 2 joker gang peeps.
An animatedBatman Beyondseries ran for three seasons from January 1999 to December 2001. The old series gained a cult following.
The Live-Action And AnimatedBatman BeyondFilms Never Saw The Light of Day
Director Boaz Yakin was once tapped to direct aBatman Beyondlive-action film. The director recalled his experience during an interview with IGN. He shared that the whole ordeal began when he told his agent that he wanted to do a studio movie likeBatmanafter his success withRemember the Titans. The agent came back to him with good news. Yakin shared withIGN:
[He] came back to me and said, ‘I have a meeting set up for you at Warner Bros. about Batman.’ I was like, ‘What!? [Laughs] Okay.’ I guess at the time I think Darren Aronofsky was developing a ‘Batman: Year One’ type of thing. So I said, ‘Okay, let me see what I can do,’ and I came up with this pitch on Batman Beyond.
Yakin shared that his film was almost like Sam Raimi’sSpider-Man, describing it as“a little bit darker — a teenage, kind of futuristic, cyberpunk Batman thing.”He wrote a draft alongside the creators ofBatman Beyond, Paul Dini andAlan Burnett. However, he realized during this time that he couldn’t make aBatmanfilm and bailed after the first draft.
There was also a plan to develop aBatman Beyondproject withMichael Keatonreprising his Batman role. The film depended on the success ofThe Flash, where Keaton briefly reprised his role. However, the new DCU effectively put a stop to such plans (via Collider).

An animated version of the film was pitched to Warner Bros. last year by writer-director Patrick Harpin ofMy Dad the Bounty Hunterfame and production designer Yuhki Demers. Demers revealed this on ther/BatmanBeyondsubreddit and shared that they got the response,“There is absolutely no way we can do a Beyond movie.”
However, Demers and Harpin kept pursuing the project and Demers revealed that the“never”later turned into a“maybe”. However, the film has yet to get a green light from the studio. Demers released what he called“a taste of what we’ve been cooking”and it brings theSpider-Verseanimation style into DC.
