Masashi Kishimoto’sNarutois the epitome of a heart-touching series. The protagonist himself is so relatable and sweet that fans cannot get enough of him. His go-getter attitude is also infectious enough to convert hardcore haters into Naruto followers.

He might have become a Hokage by the end of the series, but when he was introduced, Naruto could be described by a single word: brat. He had annoyed every sensei in Konoha as a kid and went around causing mischief all the time. However, Masashi Kishimoto revealed that the character was inspired by his childhood.
Naruto is Based on What Masashi Kishimoto Always Wanted to be
Naruto is an extremely cheerful character who never seems to give up. He was a terrible student at first, but he did not give up and learned the Shadow Clone Technique in the span of a single day. Despite being far behind his peers initially, he managed to pull ahead by sheer determination and daily practice.
Masashi Kishimoto’s Biggest Weakness Was Actually Naruto’s Best Feature Despite His Remarks: ‘I avoided depicting it’
Masashi Kishimotostated inan interview with LA Timesthat rather than creating Naruto, it almost felt like the character was born. The only image that the author had in mind was that he wanted a protagonist who would play the role of a naughty boy.
I was a poor student, but unlike Naruto, I was the type of poor student who gave up easily and pondered things that weren’t worth pondering. I wanted Naruto to be different.

Thus,Naruto’s character is based onMasashi Kishimoto’s childhood experiences, but not in the way you would imagine. Rather than creating a shadow of himself, he created a character that he inspired to be. Maybe that is why Naruto is such a popular character since he is what everyone wants to become.
Masashi Kishimoto Explains Naruto’s Appeal
Narutois a wildly popular series, and the protagonist himself is very appealing to fans. But why is it that Naruto has such an iron grip on his audience? Masashi Kishimoto opened up about it:
It’s rather awkward to talk about what makes Naruto appealing to audiences, but I think his being a knucklehead gives him an appeal.

Sharp heroes are popular, but not as much as a protagonist who acts his age like Naruto. He is a knuckleheadin the true sense of the word and often acts on his instincts.
Perfect heroes are cool, but no one can really empathize or identify with them. Naruto often makes blunders, and he has weaknesses.

While Naruto is introduced as someone who is inferior to his peers in terms of abilities, he hates to be a loser. It is becausehe hates to losethat he trains till his body is battered. He trains away from watchful eyes and returns to prove his worth. According to the author, readers can see themselves in Naruto and can empathize with him and his weaknesses, which, in turn, makes the character appealing.
