One of the unique ways the game weaves multiplayer gameplay into the average player experience is by introducing Plucked Eyeballs, a unique currency that can only be obtained by performing a very specific action in the game. Here is how it works.
What Are Plucked Eyeballs
Plucked Eyeballs are a currency reward obtained by killing enemies in the game who have defeated other players in their worlds. The way it works is that if a player dies in their world, the enemy that killed them is marked with the Victim’s name, and a red lantern appears in another player’s world near the enemy’s location.
The second player has the option to avenge their fallen comrade by interacting with thered lantern usingSoulflayand following the red moths to the enemy’s location. Killing the enemy rewards the player with150 Plucked Eyeballs.
If you’re having trouble finding the enemy being highlighted by the red lantern, enter the Umbral Realm. Chances are the enemy is one of the Umbral entities that roam the land of the dead.
How To Farm Plucked Eyeballs
Red Lanterns appear in the game randomlyin locations where players have died, but players can use a consumable called theEye of Vengeanceto expand their search and spawn more red lanterns near their location if there are any. Eye of Vengeance can be bought from the following vendors:
Farming Plucked Eyeballs requires a little bit of common sense.The more dangerous an area is, the higher the chance of red lanterns appearingin that area, as more players are likely to die to elite mobs instead of regular ones.
One of the areas where this is extremely common is at theBellroomVestige(Vestige of Blind Agatha), which has an exit guarded by anelite Ardent Penitent. If you have thePilgrim’s Perch Key, you should also unlock the belldoor to the right of the elevator, as players often die to the Pureblade Crusader guarding this area.
To spawn red lanterns, rest at the Vestige, use the Eye of Vengeance, interact with any red lantern that appears, and defeat the enemy. Rinse, repeat.
Avenging fallen players is a multiplayer exclusive, andred lanterns only appear if you are playing onlineand are logged in. To check if you’re online or not, head to any Vestige and interact with it. If you’re online, you’ll see the Multiplayer option at the bottom, but if you’re offline, you’ll see the Log In option in the same place. The game sometimesrandomly kicks players out of Multiplayer, so be sure to check every now and then whether or not you’re actually online during your grind for Plucked Eyeballs.
How To Use Plucked Eyeballs
Plucked Eyeballs can only be used at theShrine of the Putrid Mother. They have two uses:
Donating to community goals means your Plucked Eyeballs enter a pool of donations containing other donations from players. Once this cumulative donation goal is reached, new items will be unlocked at the Shrine of Putrid Mother for purchase.The Shrine of the Putrid Mother can be found in Molhu’s room at Skyrest Bridge inside theUmbral Realm.
