During the first episode of Season Two, we see Loki back in the TVAsuffering from a condition later identified by Ouroboros as Time-Slipping. During the fiasco, we are introduced to the Temporal Loom, which houses all the timelines and looks to be unstable. The Temporal Loom is a new addition to the show as well as the Marvel Universe and understanding it is essential to understand the story going forward.
The Temporal Loom, Explained
In the events of Season One, Sylvie kills He Who Remains and frees the timeline from his machinations, allowing multiple timelines and universes that give rise to the MCU multiverse. With that choice though, there are other complications that arose such as the Temporal Loom shifting into a state of disarray. When we first see the Temporal Loom, O.B., and Mobius are trying to cure Loki of his Time-Slipping affliction. When O.B. witnesses the state of the Temporal Loom, he says that the machine needs to be modified to accommodate new timelines.
Loki Season Two: Who Is Ouroboros?
Ouroboros was introduced in the first episode of Loki Season 2, and here’s all we know about this new character.
From this statement and some other exposition, we can conclude that the Temporal Loom is a device that takes raw temporal energy and weaves it into the sacred timeline, not allowing other timelines to exist. However, now that He Who Remains is dead, it must be retrofitted to allow the infinitely many timelines to exist alongside the sacred timeline. Though He Who Remains constructed this device to keep every other possibility from existing, it’s probably what’s going to help materialize the multiverse that we see in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The Sacred Timeline And What’s Next
The Sacred Timeline is what we’ve seen so far up till the events of Loki Season One, and the Temporal Loom is what constructs it. He Who Remains made the device to keep everything in order since a multiverse of possibilities threatens existence on a cataclysmic scale. A variant of his, Kang the Conqueror, was a massive threat to the multiverse and to get rid of him, he made the sacred timeline. The Temporal Loom is basically what keeps all these threats at bay and as such is an essential device that O.B. needs to fix up before an overload occurs.
Now that Miss Minutes, the TVA AI mascot, has gone rogue, there is nobody besides Ouroboros who can modify the loom to incorporate the many universes that were birthed because of Sylvie’s choice. But that’s not the only thing that this season is focusing on. Loki and Mobius also need to set out to find Sylvie to keep her safe from General Dox and her rogue agents. Many theories for what’ll happen next might even bleed into theplots of other upcoming Marvel movieslike Deadpool 3 and The Marvels, and as such, Loki Season Two is going to be a wild ride from start to finish.
