Ubisoft dearly wants to send the nextGhost Recongame to a path of success, at least that is what a recent leaks suggest. The latest game in the series wasn’t a disaster but it wasn’t a critical success either.Breakpointwas released in 2019 which failed to meet the company’s sales expectations, making it a commercial disappointment.
Though Jon Bernthal was hired to make the game more lively as the team felt a need to include a charismatic villain, the game failed despite the addition of theFuryactor. The story picks up the narrative following the events ofFuture Soldierand Nomad returns as the lead character from the previous game.
The Next Ghost Recon Is Returning To Its Roots
We are still in a fog regarding the narrative but the game is said to be drawing inspiration from major shooter titles likeModern Warfare,Battlefield,Squad, and more according to gaming news websiteInsider Gaming. Furthermore, the events of the game will take place in a south-eastern country during a fictional Naiman War.
Footage shared with the news website hints at enhanced graphics in contrast to the previous games in the series. Almost all the games fromFuture SoldiertoBreakpointare visually stunning so this must not come as a surprise if Ubisoft comes up with something appealing to the eye. It is just the storytelling that the players should be hoping will not be a mess like in the last game.
The game is likely to be released during the 2025-26 period alongside other Ubisoft games including the likes of theAssassin’s Creedfranchise. However, the current state of the gaming industry isn’t favorable to many so let’s hope it does not coerce the company to chase whatever is popular in order to sustain itself in the market.
Ubisoft Must Stick To The Traditional Path
While it is good to go after something innovative never after something controversial as it may have repercussions, that too bad. This was the case when Ubisoft decided to go after non-fungible tokens (NFTs). They are digital assets that can be traded for real money in the game. The company introduced an initiative called Quartz and was instantly hit with community backlash. The traditional gaming community has always despised NFTs in general.
Moreover, its latest gameSkull and Bonestoo was a disaster and the company would want to repair that damaged vessel through the next game. Now that we have a potential window for the popular shooter game, it should come up as a boon for the company if everything goes well.
Needless to say, it must stick to what traditional gamers would expect and don’t chase something that was a momentary success, in this case, it would be NFTs or its cousin cryptocurrencies.
