It’s been some time since there’s been any news about theLeft 4 Deadfranchise, but that doesn’t stop the series' rumor mill from going full steam. This time around we’re not hearing whispers about a new entry in the series, sodon’t get your hopes up forLeft 4 Dead 3. The rumor going around this time is about an update forLeft 4 Dead 2a full 11 years after release that includes a brand new campaign for the zombie-laden title.
According toYouTuber Tyler McVicker, there has been some strange activity on Valve’s 2009 zombie survival title. Members of the game’s community have found new closed private servers running maps that aren’t available for the game. Listings on these servers apparently reference “The Last Stand,” a mini-campaign from the originalLeft 4 Dead. This mini-campaign stranded the game’s four survivors at a lighthouse on a cliff-top and tasked players with simply surviving as long as they could. There was only one chapter - aptly named “The Lighthouse” - and an ominous tagline: “It Doesn’t End Well.”
Apparently, the server running this map, which was password protected and could not be accessed by regular folks just playing the game, “had upwards of 17 people playing on it at one time.” Don’t bother looking for these servers now though, as they’ve been hidden fromLeft 4 Dead 2’s in-game server browser.
Here’s the part that has to be taken with not a grain, but a massive dump truck of salt. According to McVicker and his sources,Left 4 Dead 2should be receiving a major content update by the end of the year, complete with a full port of “The Last Stand.”
I obviously can’t say whether or not this is true, not until Valve releases an official statement. However, an update forLeft 4 Dead 211 years after its release could be Valve gauging interest, seeing if players are still interested enough to likely redownload the game and hop back on for new content. This all could be building up toLeft 4 Dead 3, but that’s speculation on my end. Until then, we’ll just have to make do with the zombie-slaying title as is, complete withall the community content we could ever need.
