League of Geeks has revealedSolium Infernum, a new political strategy game set in the depths of Hell.

Announced at EGX, Solium Infernum is a new iteration of Vic Davis’ 2009 cult classic of the same name.League of Geeks, best-known for the strategy hitArmello, has taken the core features of Davis’ title and fleshed it out into a modern-day politics-driven turn-based strategy. The game is planned to release sometime next year on PC.

Davis’ original focused heavily on diplomacy, politics and outwitting your opponents and League of Geeks has committed firmly to preserving the “feel” of the original. Solium Infernum is built in 3D with the aesthethic and visuals that League of Geeks is known for, the card-art visual direction of Armello is back in Solium Infernum.

For those unfamiliar with the original, Solium Infernum takes place in the barren ashen landscapes of Hell. Satan has abdicated the Infernal Throne, leaving a power vacuum in his absence. Players will take control of one of the powerful Archfiends of Hell, lords who are competing to succeed the throne.

Solium Infernum will offer multiplayer for up to six players as well as single-player modes. An interesting aspect of the new Solium Infernum is that turns resolve simultaneously, meaning you’ll only know the extent of what’s occurred during a turn after it ends. The game also offers asynchronous multiplayer, meaning players can jump in and finish their turn whenever, they don’t need to play in real-time.

It’s not going to be your typical military-based strategy game, Solium Infernum is downright Machiavellian. The game puts a heavy focus on planning ahead, utilising the diplomatic options Hell has in place and outfoxing your opposition. With the existence of a parliament-type legislature in place called the Infernal Conclave, Hell has never been this political.

League of Geeks co-founder and director Trent Kusters praises Davis’ original as “one of the most remarkable video games ever made” and is “honoured and ecstatic to bring Solium Infernum into the limelight it has always deserved.” We had the opportunity to sit down with Trent in a hands-off preview of Solium Infernum.

Solium Infernum is set to release sometime in 2023 on PC, with no specific release date having been announced yet.
