There is a good deal of anime that desperately needs a second season, but it’s fair to say that Land Of The Lustrous is one of the most deserving. This anime launched Studio Orange, the same studio that gave us Beastars and the Trigun Stampede, into the mainstream and changed CG standards in anime forever.

10 Best Anime Worlds, Ranked

Add that to the captivating story and amazing character exploration, and it’s no wonder whymanga fans are begging for a second season. None of the characters in Land Of The Lustrous are human, yet we readers can relate to nearly all of them in one way or the other.

10Yellow Diamond

Yellow is the oldest of the gems and the one whose been doing patrol duty the longest. Meaning, when it comes to fighting the Lunarians, they are the most experienced. Yellow unfortunately has lost the most partners to the Lunarians, so they are very cautious with everyone they work with. Here’s hoping we get a season 2 to explore more of Yellow’s wisdom.

9Padparadscha

Seeing this character is a rare case in the anime because Padparadscha was born with an incomplete torso, leading them to be unconscious most of the time. However, when Rutile does manage to find a good substitute to wake them up, Pad is a character who steals the show. This character clearly knows more than they are letting on.

8Antarcitcite

Probably the loneliest of the Gems, Antarc is tasked with working the winter season when all the other Gems go into hibernation. This is because their body is only able to crystalize in cold temperatures. Antarc is one of the pivotal characters in this series, serving as a direct mentor figure to our protagonist, and a lesson that it takes more than hard work to live in this world.

7Sensei Kongo

The leader of the gemsand the strongest one within their home. All the Gems look up to Kongo as a father figure and respect/love him dearly. Throughout the show, Kongo remains a mystery, as we learn he has a secret connection to the Lunarians and hidden knowledge about humanity.

The resident doctor of the Gems, and the one who puts them back together should they break apart. Rutile learned more about their anatomy in order to find a cure for Padparadscha, but lucky for the rest of the Gems she agreed to help them out as well. Funnily enough, this little family would literally break without her.

5Ventricosus

A character who is introduced to us as talking a slug and later turned sea ruler. Ventricosus is one of the few characters within this story that is not Gem. Forming a connection with Phos, she tells Phos the legend between the Flesh, Bone, and Spirit, and why her people believe the Lunarians are capturing everyone.

We may only see Ventricosus for a few episodes but the ruler of the sea’s impact on the story lasts way longer than her screen time.

Padparadscha from Land of The Lustrous

The only Gem that is on night patrol because the poison coming from her body is harmful to the other Gems. Should the poison touch another Gem, they will not only break but lose a part of their memories. Cinnabar relationship with Phos is the inciting incident of the entire story.

10 Anime Characters With The Darkest Origin, Ranked

Rather than being mysterious like the other Gems think, the audience is shown quite a lot of Cinnabar’s inner thoughts and how they just want to be taken by the Lunarians to escape their eternal solitude.

Diamond is a very kind Gem and one of the best at combat due to their toughness and high offensive power. Diamond is Bort’s partner and looks up to them in a very unhealthy way. Diamond often belittles themselves constantly, stating that they have a lot to learn. However, it is Borts and Diamond’s relationship that helps both their characters to shine.

Antarcitcite from Land of The Lustrous

Thestrongest out of the Gems, Bort leads the charge on patrol duty, going as far as to train several of the Gems in later episodes. They have a very calm demeanor, even though they have no filter leading to some harsh, yet true comments.

10 Strongest Anime Characters Without Superpwers

Underneath Bort’s physical and mental toughness is a soft spot for Diamond and Sensei Kongo, although this is rarely shown as Bort puts their duties first.

1Phosphophyllite

The protagonist of the series and the youngest of all the Gems. Phos' goal is to one day fight the Lunarians, but they break way too easily, leading them to explore the rest of the school for a substitute job.

Add that to their clumsy nature and Phos has a lot of growing up to do, even if they are three hundred years old.
