Hashirama Senju, the God of Shinobi, was a powerhouse inNaruto. From the establishment of Konoha to guiding the new generation during the Fourth Great Ninja War, his contribution in the series was indispensable. For the incredible life he led, much about him was left unexplored, like the specifics about his death or the details about his Sage Mode.
The time Naruto spent training for Sage Mode and the difficulties he faced made his Sage Mode intriguing and exciting to follow. It would’ve been great to have a similar arc for Hashirama, but Kishimoto never got around to exploring his powers.
Masashi Kishimoto Never Explained Hashirama’s Sage Mode
Sage Mode allows its user to blend their own chakra with natural energy, amplifying their overall abilities and attacks as a result. The user needs to remain still to enter it, which is something that leaves them vulnerable in battles. Jiraiya and the toads found ways around this as they assisted Jiraiya, while Naruto used his shadow clones. Naruto acquired Sage Mode during his training on Mount Myoboku. We followed him at every step of his process.

While no such exploration was done for Hashirama’s Sage Mode, it was truly overpowered, as we saw him tackling Madara’s Susano with it during the final war. Itinevitably raised questionsand made fans wonder how he achieved and then mastered it. His Sage Mode gave a boost to his wood release and granted him the chakra to use the Thousand Hands technique and use it with ease.
His powers were already formidable, but in Sage Mode, he was even more threatening. It didn’t take him much time either to enter it.Masashi Kishimotonever explored how Hashirama achieved the technique and if someone trained him. All these questions remain unanswered to this day, but there are some possibilities that align with the narrative of the story.
Here’s How Hashirama Achieved His Sage Powers
The three known regions where the Legendary Sannin acquired their powers were Shikkotsu Forest, Mount Myoboku, and Ryuchi Cave. While Jiraiya, Minato, and Naruto acquired their powers at Mount Myoboku under the Toads’ supervision, it’s a popular belief that Hashirama acquired his power in Shikkotsu Forest, Slug Katsuyu’s home. Tsunade’s connection with Slug Katsuyu is the reason why fans believe that to be the case.
It’s a shame we never got an explanation from Kishimoto about Hashirama’s Sage Mode. Not just Hashirama, but the same is true for Madara’s techniques as well. Even though we have no explanation for their powers, bothHashirama and Madarawere undoubtedly menaces on the battlefield. And their shenanigans were exciting nonetheless, so no complaints in the end!
