Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is a game that really drops you in the deep end and forces you to swim, for better or worse. The opening hours are pretty linear and straightforward, but when Hans leaves you in Trozkowitz, you’ll be free to pursue anything you like.

you may go hunt down your dog Mutt, you could head to the local innkeeper for some side quests, or you could head out into the wilds and explore the world around you.

Huntsman Vostatek Stuck in Tree KCD2

However, if you pick up a side quest in the immediate area, you’ll soon see a common thread between quite a few of them. You’ll get to a point when a handful of quests ask you to get in touch with the Gameskeeper near Vidlak Pond.

But the problem is that the Gameskeeper isn’t home, and he won’t be coming back until you stumble upon him out on your travels. So, if you want to find the Gameskeeper and complete the Lackey side quest, you’re in the right place.

How To Begin The Quest

When you reach the Gameskeeper’s home, you’ll find his son and his wife, but he will be nowhere to be seen. This is because he’s down by the nearby forest, and he’s in a real pickle.

You’ll want to head down to the clearing nearby, where you will find him stuck up a tree surrounded by wolves.

Ruffians in Bandit Camp KCD2

Here is the location on the map where you’ll find him screaming and hollering for help.

When you arrive, you’ll need to take down three wolves, which sounds like a tough task, but with some careful positioning and well-timed blocks, you’ll be able to take these beasts down one by one.

The Gameskeeper’s return KDC2

You could initially try to take one down with a bow and arrow, but truthfully, it’s not necessary here. After all, wolves don’t have any armor, so they’ll go down pretty easily.

After you clear them out, you can approach him, and he will jump down from the tree. The only problem is that he’s absolutely drunk as a skunk, and when he does jump down, he’ll snap his ankle like a twig. This means that you will need to take him to his camp some ways along the stream.

Finding The Hunters Camp

You’ll need to pick up the Gameskeeper and carry him on your back, and all the while, he will give you vague directions on where to go to reach his hidden camp.

Generally speaking, if you just keep heading north of the tree that you find him in, you’ll be fine, but he’ll expect you to find certain landmarks before he gives you his next direction.

Firstly, you’ll need to head north until you find a fallen tree; then, you’ll need to find an ant hill just a little further along.

Then, you’ll need to press on until you reach a birch tree that splits like a fork before finally finding a cairn marking the entrance, heading into the forest, and coming to his hidden camp.

Rescuing Pepik From Bandits

Vostatek has mentioned that he tied up his horse and best friend, Pepik, at this camp, but when you arrive, the steed will be nowhere to be seen. This is because bandits have arrived at the camp and cut the horse loose while the Gameskeeper was away.

So, because you’re able to’t get him to safely without a horse to carry him, you’ll need to head deeper into the forest and find those who took them. This will send you along a trail littered with items from the horse’s saddlebag, and some less desirable things that come from its rear end. But smelly or not, they will lead you to a bandit camp where the horse is being held.

In this camp, there are a total of five bandits, and at this point in the game, I probably don’t need to tell you that five enemies are simply too many.

So the easiest way to get your hands on the horse is to enter from the West side of camp, stealthily knock out anyone sitting near the food station if possible, and then you’re able to sneak into camp, mount the horse, and ride out of there before they have time to react.

This is by far the easiest way to progress this quest. However, if you’re hellbent on getting the larger reward come the end of the quest, you’ll want to be very tactical about your approach to these bandits.

You’ll want to attack at night, hang around the periphery of camp, and try to aggro bandits out of their group before taking them out in one-on-one skirmishes.

This is fairly easy, aside from one camp member who has a lot more armor and swordsman skills than the others. So ensure you are able to take them on alone without worrying about any archers.

It can be worthwhile to fight and kill the bandits, but it’s a lot easier to come back later with Mutt and better gear. You’ll lose out on the extra coin, but you’ll still get plenty from the camp’s stash.

Whether you decide to sneak in and steal Pepik or rid the forest of its bandit infestation, after you’re done, head back to the Hunter’s Camp and ride back to the Gameskeeper’s home.

Rewards For Completing The Quest

Upon returning to the Gamekeeper’s home, you will be greeted by his family, who will thank you for your service and curse your new pal’s drunken ways.

However, drunk or not, he’s a man who rewards competence, and if you rescue his horse and deliver him home, you will receive 45 Groschen for your efforts. You will receive a little more if you take out all the bandits at the camp, so bear that in mind.

However, the real benefit of rescuing this hapless drunk is that you’re able to now push forward with two side quests. You’ll be able to find out where to get Strings for the Lute in the Troubador quest line, and you’ll also be able to find out what he knows about the location of your dog, Mutt.
