During an appearance on theHappy Sad Confusedpodcast, Winslet opened up about the heartbreaking mother-son story at the center of her biographical drama based on Miller’s life. She stated:
Anthony Penrose has done so much to not only upholding his mother’s Legacy but also coming to understand since her death in 1977 who she truly was and also understand why she was the way she was as a mother.
TheMare of Easttownstar added that Penrose shared a difficult relationship with his mother, primarily because Miller struggled with alcoholism and battled with PTSD when he was still a child.

In an interview withVogue, Winslet opened up about the trouble she faced while producing the movie and admitted to paying the cast and crew with her own money for two weeks.
The men who think you want and need their help are unbelievably outraging. I’ve even had a director say to me: ‘Listen, you do my film and I’ll get your little Lee funded.’
Winslet made the above statement, voicing her outrage over a director calling a film based on Miller’s life “little.”
