Following a couple, who start a true-crime podcast to document a local serial killer, the show has been very well received and set to return with a Season 2 soon.

As fans await Season 2, Cuoco has revealed that much like her character in the show, she is also a true crime enthusiast, stating it as one of the reasons she chose to be a part of the show.
Kaley Cuoco Revealed Her Love For True Crime
In an interview withAwards Radar, the Emmy-nominated actress,Kaley Cuocoreflected on the reasons that motivated her to join the dark comedy TV seriesBased on a True Story.
While the actress revealed her wish to work with Chris Messina, who plays her husband in the show, as one of the reasons, she also noted,“A lot of boxes were checked for me in this show.”One such thing included her love for true crime.

I love true crime. I literally fall asleep to Dateline every single night. I watch repeats, I listen to murder podcasts.
The actress further argued that the reason for such an obsession is likely rooted in her acting career, as she has always been on television, playing fictionalized characters.

“I think it’s because I’ve been on television my whole life, which is why I enjoy the real stuff,”she said while admitting,“It also soothes me to sleep, which is really weird. Murder should not soothe me to sleep, but it does.”
TheMeet Cutestar also shared that her partner often questions her obsession. While she acknowledged“how hard it is to watch,”Cuoco also stated that it gives people a voice to share their stories along with maintaining the hope that sharing these stories could bring closure to those affected.

Peacock recently released the firsttrailerof the upcoming Season 2 ofBased on a True Story, showcasing the new developments as Ava and Nathannavigate parenthoodamid the return of the Westside Ripper.
The trailer showcases them focusing back on their respective careers and their son following the events of the first season, only to be drawn back into the world of true crime when the notorious Westside Ripper resurfaces, leading to a string of new murders.

Things only get complicated as her younger sister Toby is engaged to Matt, whom Ava suspects may be linked to the recent killings. However, Toby insists that Matt is genuinely trying to change his ways.
The trailer also introducesMelissa Fumero, known for portraying Amy Santiagoin the popular sitcomBrooklyn Nine-Nine, as Drew, a new mom friend who serves as a distraction for Ava amid the chaos.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Melissa Fumero to the series in a surprising new role,”the new showrunner Annie Weisman shared in a press release, as perUS Weekly. Season 2 will consist of eight episodes and is set to premiere on Jun 06, 2025.
