Clint Eastwood joined forces with Nicholas Hoult in a legal thriller,Juror No. 2(stylizedJuror #2), which is coming to the screen soon. However, Warner Bros.’s treatment of the film may not sit well with fans of the veteran actor and director. Eastwood’s potential Oscar contender is being given a limited release in theaters after its debut at the AFI Fest.

With only a week left for its release, Warner Bros. has reportedly blocked less than 50 theaters for the film. It appears to be a very unconventional practice, not to mention a less-than-respectful treatment for what could be Eastwood’s potentially last film.

But according to a source,Eastwood’s new directorial ventureis reportedly getting buried by WB. The source shared withVarietythatJuror No. 2will feature only in less than 50 theaters in the US.

If one were to visit theofficial websiteof the film, only 18 markets in the US are listed, with very few locations and showtimes at each market. The prominent markets like New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago only have four, five, and one locations showing the film respectively. According to Variety, Canada’s leading exhibitor Cineplex is opening the film in Toronto in only one theater.

The film is aiming to win major awards, yet has fewer theaters than other potential contenders likeAnoraandThe Brutalist. Multiple sources shared with Variety that WB is also considering not reporting the box office numbers of the film, an“atypical practice”for a major studio like WB. Some even speculate that WB is doing the minimum to make the film eligible for Oscars.

Clint Eastwood’s last Oscar contender,American Sniper,had a great opening at the box office. He also made $100 million+ on projects likeSullyandThe Mule. However, WB’s problems with Eastwood may lie with his post-COVID 19 releaseCry Macho, which was a box office failure. However, one source close to WB shared with Variety that the studio’s decision to putJuror No. 2in theaters was itself in good faith.
