Jude Law is taking on the role of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the upcoming film,The Wizard of the Kremlin. The film will have Law in a supporting role whileThe Batmanstar Paul Dano will play the lead.The Holidayactor shared that he had a lot more preparation to do before actually portraying Putin.

Law was last seen in the action filmThe Order. He appears in a supporting role alongside Ana de Armas, Sydney Sweeney, and Vanessa Kirby in the survival thriller,Eden, which premiered at TIFF. He also ventured into the world ofStar Warswith the lead role in the show,Skeleton Crew.

He told Deadline that he had yet to start filming the movie and that a mountain of preparation work was ahead of him. He also added that he is almost regretting the decision to say yes to the role after seeing the workload. However, he shared that he would eventually manage to sort it out. He shared with the outlet:
I haven’t really started work on it yet. I mean, I have, but at the moment it looks like an Everest to climb, so I’m in the foothills looking up thinking, ’Oh Christ, what have I said?’ That’s often how I feel whilst I say yes. I was going, ’Oh God, how am I going to do this?’ But anyway, that’s for me to sort out.

The Wizard of the Kremlinis an adaptation of Giuliano da Empoli’s best-selling novel of the same name.Varietyreported the film back in May 2024, even mentioning Law among the cast alongsidePaul Dano, Alicia Vikander, Zach Galifianakis, and Tom Sturridge. However, the roles of the actors weren’t revealed at the time.
Dano will play a young TV producer, Vadim Baranov, who unexpectedly becomes an advisor to Putin as he ascends to power. The synopsis of the film, according to Variety, read:

Working at the heart of Russian power, Baranov blurs truth with lies, the news with propaganda, directing the entire society like one great reality show. Only his love for the magnetic, free-minded Ksenia can turn him away from this dangerous game.
Director Assayas and Emmanuel Carrère have co-written the film and it looks to launch at the Cannes Film Festival this year. Gaumont and Curiosa Films will serve as the production houses behind the film.
