The character of Superman has been portrayed, refreshed, and shown in Hollywood movies and series countless times. And yet, people cannot get enough of this iconic superhero and neither can J.J. Abrams.

Back in 2021, the director had announced a Black Superman movie to be in development over at Warner Bros. 3 years later, we may not have any updates about it but we do know that the Black Superman movie is fighting with everything that it has got.

It was part of a $500 million mega-deal between the director and Warner Bros. However, it doesn’t seem the studio has much to show for it. According to a report byVariety, Warner Bros. wanted to keep Abrams as a sort of hiring authority for various projects and movies.
Back in 2021, Abrams announced that a Superman movie starring a person of color in the iconic role would be put into pre-production soon. As the days passed on by, people started hearing less and less of it.

Amidst reports that J.J. Abrams’ deal with Warner Bros.has been dropped to very low levels, Variety alleges that the Black Superman project is still alive, breathing, and fighting every day for its survival.
On the big screen, plenty of hype surrounded an Abrams-produced Black Superman film with a script by Ta-Nehisi Coates. That project is technically still alive but has seen no forward movement since early 2023.

Instead of any updates about Abrams’ take on the role of Superman, the DCU &James Gunn’sSupermanhas been given the spotlight for quite a while. Even the world is excited and waiting for that one.
