TheGuardians of the Galaxywas a welcome addition to the larger and expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it encouraged other creatives from different areas of expertise to adapt this ragtag team of scoundrels in a much more interactive medium. The superhero craze was higher than ever and gave Square Enix the idea to pioneer the crusade in gaming; unfortunately, the poor execution of their first attempt cascaded into chaos and ruined the chances of the Guardians to thrive in gaming despite being a great project.

The failure ofMarvel’s Avengersstarted a domino effect and severely harmed this game’s chances of becoming a financial success. Despite positive reviews from fans and critics alike, the game did not sell all that well.
Marvel’sGuardians of the GalaxyHad no Right to be Good and Deserves a Sequel
The game heavily resembled the wackiness of the live-action films; however, it was evident from the start that it was not a tie-in of any kind and the developers wanted to tell an original tale featuring the Guardians along with other cosmic beings entities part of the Marvel brand.
It was an exciting time for modern and original superhero games after Insomniac Games got the ball rolling withMarvel’s Spider-Man. It was a no-brainer that theAvengerswould be made in the same vein and level of passion and care but it was quite the opposite. Square Enix integrated the live-service structure inMarvel’s Avengersand it bombed badly and affected the chances ofMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxyin the process.

The developers added everything the gaming community abhorred about modern online multiplayer games, like microtransactions and paid cosmetic outfits, andpaired it with repetitive gameplay. While the story mode of the blockbuster ensemble was short but promised to be updated regularly through expansions, the Guardians resembled a much simpler approach with a decent-sized campaign and a compelling narrative.
One Surprising Member of Guardians of the Galaxy Is Joining the Marvel Rivals Roster, and a Spider-Man Staple Villain Joins in Too
The story was spot on and each member had their moment to shine. The gaming community had low to zero expectations for this project since the first game was badly made but everything the Avengers lacked, the Guardians had it in spades. The combat was simple and not too convoluted for casual players to keep up as players solely take on the role of Peter Quill, better known as Star-Lord as he commands his teammates in combat.

Quill is a scoundrel who wants to make a name for himself and his team after the Galactic War as heroes for hire but gets caught up in the middle of something monumental. Throughout the game, players can engage in optional conversations discover little tidbits of trivia about other Guardians, and see each member grow.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: All The Confirmed Songs For The Game So Far
The simple and generic gameplay makes up for a chill gaming experience. If the team gets stuck between a rock and a hard place, Quill can huddle them and select the right phrase to motivate his friends to work better together while fighting enemies to the beat of the blasting music.
The developers of Eidos Montreal understood the characters which is why the game was a tremendous success on all fronts. Each Guardian had a tragic backstory that blended well with the original story they wanted to tell akin to the films.

Despite not selling all that well,Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxyis still highly regarded within the gaming community and fans would love a sequel to be made. The first game was a success and it somewhat redeemed Square Enix for the failure that isMarvel’s Avengers.
