Starring opposite Glen Powell in the adventurous rom-com, Sweeney had to swim through shark-infested waters, get airlifted through a helicopter, and even got a real Huntsman spider bite while filming. However, her co-star Powell blames the movie’s crew for her horrific spider incident.

The newly released romantic comedy, featuring a classic enemies-to-lovers trope,Anyone But Youis a pretty unconventional rom-com for when movies of the genre involve swimming in shark-infested waters in a shark cage or shooting with actual Huntsman spiders. But so happened on the sets ofSydney Sweeney‘s movie, leading to her getting a horrific Spider bite.
Although the actress was informed it was a ‘trained’ spider (viaThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon), she still got a bite thanks to the crew’s advice, as her co-starGlen Powellstates. In an interview withEntertainment Weekly, Powell reveals,
“The Huntsman spider, when she brings it out on her hand, it’s motionless. And they’re like, ‘It looks fake, so jostle it a little bit.’ And I’m like, ‘Jostle it?’ And they’re like, ‘Yeah, you have to shake it to make it move.’ So, she’s having to do this insert shot where she’s shaking this spider and agitating it.”
And just as he had thought, the Huntsman spider went on to bite Sweeney leaving two horrific bite marks on her wrist. Fortunately for the actress, who plays Spider-Woman next, the spider wasn’t dangerous enough to cause any serious harm.

Sydney Sweeney’s Screams In The Spider Scene Are Real
Anyone But Youfeatures a scene where Sweeney’s character finds a huge Huntsman spider accidentally. During the shoot, the actress was asked to scream as she nestled the ‘trained’ spider in her palm, and it went on to bite the actress in real life as the crew remained aloof.
“So, we’re filming, and then the thing just starts biting me. But we’re in the middle of the scene, and I’m supposed to be screaming, but then my screaming got a little serious. They thought I was making really serious dramatic choices in a rom-com… So no one cut.”
She tells host Jimmy Fallon during a recent appearance onThe Tonight Show. While she continued screaming as the cameras kept rolling, her co-star Powell was the only one who realized that she was actually bit.
“So I’m just standing there with this spider on my arm, biting me, and I’m screaming, and just everyone’s watching. Glen was the only one who was like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa. I think this is a little real’ and we had to cut.”
Fortunately, the cast and crew remained unhurt apart from this horrific spider incident.Anyone But Youis in theatres now.
