Robert Kirkman SaysInvincible‘s Omni-Man Could ‘Easily’ Beat Superman

Robert Kirkmanfound success with the animated superhero series,Invincible, even at a time when the genre was struggling to impress the audience. Simmons’ Nolan Grayson is initially presented as Earth’s most powerful superhero on a mission to protect the planet. However, it is almost immediately revealed that the alien character has evil intentions. Omni-Man shows his powers in the most brutal ways possible, killing many people throughout season one. He earned the nickname among fans as ‘evil’ Superman.

When Kirkman appeared for an interview during the IGN Fan Fest 2024, he made some remarks that rubbed the wrong way with DC fans. When the online debates about Omni-Man v. Superman came to discussion, Kirkman almost immediately dismissed the point of any debates. He shared that Omni-Man could easily beat Superman. He also revealed that he would often join such debates online and support Omni-Man, which angers many hardcore Superman fans. He toldIGN:

Robert Kirkman responds to Omni-Man v. Superman debate

“That discussion usually ends with people on the internet mad at me because I say that Superman is lame and that Omni-Man would easily beat Superman. So I didn’t want to say that again and get people mad at me all over again. Even though it’s true!”

The IGN interviewer clearly didn’t want the question about Omni-Man v. Superman answered, as she knew that it would be a controversial subject among comic book fans. She instead deflected the subject to Omni-Man versus real-life threats like parking tickets and midlife crisis. Fans on social media have already started trolling Kirkman, with one prominentX commentreading,“They’re called SUPERMAN CLONES for a reason.”

Kirkman shared that Omni-Man inInvincibleis not an evil character, but it is who he is as a character. He added that calling Nolan Grayson evil was reductive to the character. Kirkman shared with IGN:

“There’s a big arc that he’s gonna be going through. There’s a lot of talk of Amazon and their evil Supermen with Homelander and Omni-Man. There’s a big difference in what we’re trying to do with Omni-Man, and who he is as a character. It’s reductive to just refer to him as an evil Superman. He is not an evil character.”
