FromFallouttoThe Elder Scrolls, laying waste to entire cities worth of innocent civilians has been an option inBethesdagames for the past couple of decades, and now it looks like upcoming space RPGStarfieldwill be no different.
According to theGame Rating and Administration Committee(GRAC), Korea’s official software ratings board, Starfield will allow players to “steal other people’s things and attack civilians,” earning it a bump up in the maturity department. For that reason and may others, the committee has deemed the upcoming game “Not for Teenagers.” While it’s not clear exactly how the mechanics of robbing and/or attacking civilians will play out, the committee has made note of Starfield’s inclusion of “Excessive gore due to combat” and “Excessive use of profanity such as Fxxx, Axxxxxx, etc.”, so it seems likely you’ll be able to be just as awful a neighbor in space as you could be in Rivet City or Solitude.

In addition to those mature content warnings, GRAC’s assessment of Starfield also brings up “Excessive use of drugs [that] causes hallucinations on the screen or blurred vision after drinking.” The news of drug use in Starfield is nothing new, as Australia’s Classification Boardalready shred that informationin its ratings assessment in mid-March, along with the somewhat surprising announcement from the other side of the mature content spectrum, that there would beno sexual content of any kindin the game.

We haven’t seen too much of Starfield in action, but it seems like it will bear a lot of similarities to other Bethesda RPGs, albeit with some major upgrades offered by the current-generation hardware. Official releases from the development team have revealed that the players' actions in the game will have consequences, includingwhich characters live and die, although the voiced dialogue systemabsolutely dwarfs Fallout 4 and Skyrim.
While it’s unclear whether the gore and violence against civilians will be addressed at the time, we will get to find a lot more about Starfield in just about a week, on June 11, when the Starfield Direct showcase streams across the Internet. The showcase will immediately follow the Xbox Games Showcase, which is scheduled for 10AM PT / 1PM ET / 6PM BST / 7PM CET.
Starfield is planned for release exclusively on Xbox Series X|S and PC on September 6.
