The 49-year-old’s film was expected to win, but perhaps the online controversy surrounding his use of a fake nose to portray Leonard Bernstein prevented it.

Jimmy Kimmel took aim at the A-list crowd at the 96th Academy Awards, so he took this opportunity to throw some shade at Cooper’s Oscar snub, too.

Some social media users criticized (onX) Cooper’s facial transformation as“horribly antisemitic”due to his use of a false nose.

Now that it lost an Oscar in the category of Best Makeup and Hairstyling,Jimmy Kimmeltakes aim at Cooper’s nose in the film while addressingColman Domingo‘s casting in theupcoming Michael Jackson biopic. The host said:
“If you think Maestro had some good fake noses, hang on to your jerri curls because you aint seen nothing yet.”

Cooper’s team, which included Kay Georgiou, Lori McCoy-Bell, and Academy Award-winning makeup artist Kazu Hiro, competed against thePoor Thingscrew, but lost ultimately.
Leonard Bernstein’s Children Defend Bradley Cooper’s Nose inMaestro
Despite some viewers pushing back on Cooper’s transformation, Leonard Bernstein’s children, Jamie, Alexander, and Nina, released a joint statement in August 2023 (on Bernstein’s officialInstagrampage) praising the filmmaker’s vision to portraying their father. Read the statement below:
“It breaks our hearts to see any misrepresentations or misunderstandings of his efforts. It happens to be true that Leonard Bernstein had a nice, big nose. Bradley chose to use makeup to amplify his resemblance, and we’re perfectly fine with that.”
The film received seven Oscar nominations in total, including nods for Best Picture, Cooper’s script, and the lead performances by both theNightmare Alleystar andCarey Mulligan.
