Palworldfans are not happy with Nintendo taking steps to investigate a game released this month, without explicitly mentioning the game’s name.Palworldreleased just last week on the 19th has become an instant hit among gamers. The game has hundreds of creatures in the game, called Pals, and they look an awful lot like the friendly monsters ofPokémon.

WhilePalworldfans are helping the game top Steam charts, Pokémon fans are accusing the game of copying the likeness of creatures found in Pokémon. As fans continue to shower the game with love, there’s also huge support being shown just in case Nintendo attempts to spoil the party.
Fans Warn Nintendo As Japanese Giant Looks into Palworld
Nintendo announced that they’re looking into a game that released this month without calling outPalworld, even if it was quite obvious. In a press release posted on the official website yesterday, Nintendo revealed having received “numerous inquiries from customers regarding the game released in January 2024“.
Nintendo went on to mention not having granted any permission for the use ofPokémon‘s assets in “that game“. Revealing the intent to investigate, Nintendo went on to mention:

We intend to investigate and take appropriate measures to address any acts that infringe on intellectual property rights related to the Pokémon.
This didn’t sit well withPalworldfans even if Nintendo never mentioned the game by name. On Reddit, a fan started adiscussionstating any steps taken by Nintendo to stop the game could see a boycott of Nintendo titles. The post has so far garnered over 1000 comments and several of them showed support for the game.

One of thecommentswas about how Nintendo also released a similar statement when another similar MMORPG, Temtem was released in 2020. Temtem was also released on Switch with no steps taken by Nintendo to oppose the game with similar creatures and similar gameplay.
Anothercommentstated another obvious fact that if Nintendo intended to do something, it would have taken steps even beforePalworldhad been released.

Pokémon Fan Goes the Extra Mile Comparing Creatures
APokémonfan, Cecilia Fae, has taken the extra effort tolistand compare 63 creatures betweenPokémoncreatures andPalworldvariants. Fae made it clear that not all of the listed creatures are exact replicas found in Palworld but that the extent of plagiarism was rather obvious.
One of therepliesto Fae’s post on X stated the fact that the similarity was immediately obvious right off the trailer shown at The Game Awards last year but that it “doesn’t mean the game isn’t fun“. Most of the other replies mentioned howPalworlddevelopers, Pocket Pair Inc., wouldn’t lose any sleep over the allegations.

Pocket Pair’s CEO Takuro Mizobe also stated that the company had no intention of infringement or plagiarism. Talking to a media outlet, Mizobesaidthe company had “absolutely no intention of infringing upon the intellectual property of other companies.”
It will be interesting to see just what steps Nintendo takes and if a more direct statement is made by the Japanese giant.
