AlthoughInterstellaris somewhat Nolan’s brainchild, his brother Jonathan Nolan was attached to the film as its writer. With director Steven Spielberg attached originally as the director, J. Nolan revealed that the spirit of the original script remained even after changing directors.

Before Christopher Nolan and physicist Kip Thorne turned Jonathan Nolan’s script into a film, theJurassic Parkdirector was originally attached to the film. Sitting on the director’s chair, Spielberg had his own version of the film and his take on it.
Later on,Christopher Nolanwas hired as the director and he worked alongside Jonathan Nolan in the film. The result was the incredible 2014 film that we saw and love to this day. From exchanging directors to changing ideas, the film had several suggestions for its name.

In an interview with Spinoff (viaScreenRant), Chris Nolan’s brother Jonathan Nolan sat down to talk about the 2014 film. While in the interview, J. Nolan revealed that although Spielberg was replaced, the film maintained its originality through its script.
What’s great about working with my brother is that he came armed to this with some of his own ideas that kind of mind-bending aspect of what might be out there beyond the infinite. So I think the spirit of the film is very similar, but Chris brings his own unique take on it.
He further continued,
There’s a lot of versions of this film that might have been kind of an animated movie. But I’m drawn to working with filmmakers like Steven and like Chris who are committed to the old fashioned art of movie making: go out and make it for real.
With Nolan’s brilliant visuals and his idea for an emotional story between Cooper and his daughter, the film became different than a normal sci-fi film. Well, veteran directorSteven Spielberghad planned it a bit differently.

A lot different actually as there were significant changes between Spielberg’s and Nolan’s versions of the stories. From returning to Earth to finding NASA probes in Texas, Spielberg’s idea was widely different, and here’s what the original idea entailed.

In Spielberg’s version, China had reached Miller’s planet 30 years before Cooper arrived there. However, the crew had died moments (or years) before Cooper’s arrival because of radiation bursts from a nearby neutron star.
As per Spielberg’s ideas, the Chinese astronauts had already solved the gravitational problem but they weren’t able to return back to Earth. Unlike Nolan’s options, Spielberg had only set one planet (which is Miller’s planet) for Cooper to explore. However, they would have found alien species living in an underground bunker of the Chinese habitat on Miller’s planet.
With a fight ensuing Cooper survives and escapes. He returns to Earth in the year 2230 and finds that the planet is on the brink of apocalypse. With occasional ice storms destroying everything, Cooper lies down and waits for his death until he wakes up in a hospital on Cooper Station (similar to Nolan’s version).

However, the alien species fight and more focus on the solution rather than the grandiosity of the universe would have been a wasted potential on a script likeInterstellar.Christopher Nolan took on the role of director and created that 2014 film which was a grand success.
Interstellarreceived a rating of 8.7/10 on IMDB and 73% on Rotten Tomatoes.The film is available to stream on Prime Video in the U.S.
