When it comes to compelling antagonists in the MCU, it has been a kind of mixed bag, as, for every Killmonger, we have had the likes of Malekith and Whiplash. Fortunately, Daniel Bruhl’s Zemo was one of the more interesting villains the cinematic giant had to offer, who despite lacking any superpower of his own, succeeded in breaking the Avengers.
And while Zemo is still out there in the MCU, Bruhl is seemingly putting his future in the MCU in jeopardy with his upcoming HBO showThe Franchise.

But his future in the MCU might be a bit uncertain, asDaniel Bruhl, who has enjoyed notable success outside of the MCU, isset to take shots at the superhero industrywithThe Franchise.

However,All Quiet on the Western FrontStar isn’t too worried about the implications of the upcoming satire, implying thatKevin Feigeand the Marvel studios can take a joke. He toldScreen Rant:
“I mean, they haven’t killed me yet… [Right] now I’m doing a series, which is called The Franchise. But if there are people who have a lot of sense of humor, then it’s Marvel and it’s Kevin Feige. I’m very happy to shoot something about the franchise world and with a comical approach.”

While for now, the actor is into other projects, including his upcoming movieRace for Glory: Audi vs. Lancia, which revolves around the ’83 World Rally Championship, he is open to returning as Zemo.
Playing Zemo Has Always Been Nice for Daniel Bruhl
Playing Baron Zemo was a gratifying experience for the actor, following the unpredictable nature of the character. Bruhl recalled that he was pleasantly surprised when MCU added a sense of humor into the character for his appearance in the Disney Plus show, which he greatly enjoyed. And while nothing can be said certain about Zemo’s future in the MCU, if the right opportunity comes, Bruhl will be always down to reprising the role.
“I guess it was nice with that Zemo guy because he was so surprising and different. Also, the second time around I was invited to explore the sense of humor in that character, which I relish and enjoy so much. So again, it was a surprise, I was invited to surprise the people. So I guess that if he shows up again, you really need to carefully think what is this crazy little guy up to this time around? So if the right opportunity would come, I wouldn’t say no, obviously.”

It’ll be interesting to see how Zemo’s story unfolds in the future, as despite Bruhl’s involvement in the upcoming satire, it’s reasonable to assume Feige and Co. will take the jokes sportingly.
The Franchiseis slated to release sometime in the Fall of 2024.
