Elden Ring Director Hidetaka Miyazaki Prefers to Keep Some Secrets
A Reddit userTipProfessional6057took to the EldenRingLoreTalk subreddit and posted a snippet of theIGNinterview from 2019 where Hidetaka Miyazaki talked about the novelization of the mythology by George R.R. Martin and said that it would exciting to see a novel about it. He also asked otherElden Ringplayers how would it affect the discussion about the lore of the game.
When asked about the novelization of the mythology inElden Ring, Miyazaki said that it has not been decided yet but stated that he does not want it to be novelized as it would give out all the secrets and he wants the players to experience it through the game. Miyazaki stated:

A novelization would mean that all the secrets and mystery hidden in our game would be revealed. From the point of view of a director, I’m not sure if that would be the right thing to do.
Miyazaki also added that players would learn Martin’s mythology in the game via exploration and players would be unraveling Martin’s story. Although it’s been a long time since Miyazaki said that he does not want to see the novelization of the mythology, it could change at any time but manyElden Ringplayers agreed that Miyazaki is right and the mystery is a massive part of the game and it is what makes the story interesting.

User TipProfessional6057 added that it is true that the game’s mystery makes for an interesting story but there are a few questions that should be answered. Several other players agreed that they would want to read a book series ofElden Ring.
Another player said that revealing information would make a soul’s game boring adding that“Environmental storytelling is subjective, and its magic is lost when an official narrative is established.”A player said that while novelization would be a good idea Miyazaki wouldn’t want it to go “against his narrative design” where he wants the audience to not know some things.

While players added that the novelization of the mythology would take“away a huge appeal of the game,”some players also said that it is nice to live in mystery but having a novel after all this time would be nice. What are your thoughts about this? Should there be a novelization ofElden Ring? Let us know in the comment section below.
