The actor opened up about it a few years ago during an interview withThe Hollywood Reporter. He confessed that he was offered $29 million to appear in the sequel, but he turned it down because he felt it could not match up to the original.
“I would have had to promote the movie from an honest place. Which would’ve been, like, “Oh no, it’s not good. I just couldn’t turn down that much money.” And I thought, “Can I actually say those words? I don’t think I can, so I guess I can’t do the movie,”he said.

James Caan, who played Buddy’s father in the film, spilled the beans on their working relationship. As reported by theDaily Mail, he made an appearance on Cleveland’s 92.3 The Fan’s Bull & Fox a few years ago, when he touched upon the topic. He mentioned that it was in their clause that both would have to be attached to get a green light on the sequel.
“The director and Will didn’t get along very well. So, Will wanted to do it, he didn’t want the director, and he had it in his contract, it was one of those things,”he said.
