The Batman character was born in the pages of a comic book 85 years ago and continues to fascinate audiences around the world. Since his first debut inDetective Comics #27on August 19, 2025, the caped crusader has transcended his origins and become one of the most beloved superheroes in history.

Michael Uslan, who acquired the film rights to Batman in 1979 and cemented his status as a cultural icon, spoke at the Cultural Summit in Abu Dhabi with his son and producing partner David Uslan.

Uslan senior is responsible for overseeing all subsequent Batman film adaptations, starting with the 1989 blockbuster simply titledBatman. It started with the critically acclaimed and Oscar-winningJoker(2019), not to mention several animated spin-offs.
Batman Takes Flight Around the World
Michael Uslan’s vision extended beyond Hollywood. He recognized the potential for international interpretations of the Batman character, a strategy that has fueled the character’s global reach. This year will see the release ofAztec Batman: Clash of Empires, a Spanish-language animated film specifically tailored to the South and Latin American market. Aztec Batman was produced in Mexico in partnership with Ánima and Chatrone.
However, a release date is yet to be announced forBatman Azteca: Choque de Imperios(Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires).

This follows the success of 2018’sBatman Ninja, a Japanese animated film that transported the superhero back in time to feudal Japan, where he faced off against the Joker and his samurai henchmen. The film’s success sparked a localized franchise, emphasizing Batman’s versatility across different cultures and storytelling mediums.
“The success of that film has spawned an entire new localised franchise of Batman in Japan. Batman Ninja was a very hardcore manga-anime adaptation but it worked wonderfully,” David Uslan said at theCultural Summit.

Building on this momentum, David Uslan confidently talked about an Arabic version of Batman on the horizon. He asserted:
“I bet you before we know it there is going be a number of great brands around the world that are going to be doing whatever they can to have an impact here in the Mena region and especially in the UAE.”
