Destiny 2got its massive expansionThe Witch Queenon February 22, adding a new weapon crafting mechanic to the game, here’s our introduction guide on how to unlock the system and how it works.

What’s the weapon crafting mechanic in Destiny 2 expansion The Witch Queen?

The weapon crafting mechanic wasfirst announcedbyDestiny 2developer Bungie back in 2021. It lets players craft and customize weapons with slots and abilities, like equipment in a hack and slash game. On paper, the weapon crafting system was implemented to change and ultimately improve the meta of the game. By avoiding pay to win mechanics, and allowing players to get better weapons without excessive farming.

We’ll only know whether the weapon crafting feature reached these goals or not in a few weeks, after everyone has spent some time on the expansion. We summarized below the most important points you need to know about weapon crafting.

How to unlock weapon crafting in Destiny 2

You need to startThe Witch Queen’s campaign and complete its introduction quest, and complete the quest The Relic that will unlock right after. This is a quest that will properly explain all of the weapon crafting mechanic in-game.

Where and how to craft weapons

The quest will lead you to the new area on Mars called the Enclave, where you’ll find the Relic, allowing you to craft weapons. To craft new weapons, you need Patterns, basically blueprints that you get through quests and by simply playing the game and looting.

Why you should craft your first Glaive as fast as possible

One of the new weapon types added with the crafting mechanic is the Glaive, a weapon who can do both long and short ranged attacks. You cannot loot a Glaive-type weapon, you need to craft them.

Once you crafted a Glaive for the first time, you’ll be able to start looting weapons with affixed abilities. It’s a typical “equipment with slots” system inspired byDiablo. Most notably, certain weapons will drop with an affix called Deepsight Resonance.

Look out for Depsight Resonance weapons

Long story short, if you find a weapon with a first perk and the Deepsight Resonance perk, by fulfilling certain objectives, you can extract the 1st perk from the weapon and transfer it to another weapon via crafting.
