How to Beat Zhu Bajie

The fight against Zhu Bajie, at least for the first half, will play outvery much like your fight against them back at the Hut of Immortality, with the only real difference being that you now have the debilitating sludge to contend with now as well.

This basically means that you’ll need to be more mindful of when you dodge, as the sludge will prevent you from running, jumping, or dodging with the usual careless abandon the game allows for.

You’ll want to take a moment to learn their melee combos and get an understanding of the tight dodge windows you have to work within.

The only real difference between this and the last encounter during the first stage is that occasionally, Zhu Bajie will performa hurricane attackwhere they will embody the Tasmanian Tiger and jet across the arena.

And they will occasionally turn into a huge sludge fish and do a roll attack that can be hard to avoid. So when either of these attacks occur, getting some distance is ideal, or useCloud Stepif you have mana in excess.

During this period, you’ll want to mainly rely on heavy attacks as they are very easily staggered. So make use ofyour Pillar Stanceto get out of the sludge and deal strong heavy blows. Plus, make use of Cloud Step and combo finishers, to keep them on the back foot for as long as possible.

Then, when you get Zhu Bajie down to 50% health the second phase will begin. In this phase, Zhu Bajie will be much more mobile as they take the form of a demonic hog and run around the arena.

This stage begins with them churning up the sludge below you, and can stagger you a few times if you don’t get out of the way. So try to avoid staring blankly at them when this stage begins.

After this, they will take off andperform a series of charging attacks. Avoid these and then rush to them as they fall to the ground, as this is a great chance to deal some damage.

This is a good time to castA Pluck of Manyandtransform into Yin Tiger, as the duplicates will have plenty of time to melt their health bar while you are in an invulnerable state.

Eventually, they will get to their feet again and will likely transform into the sludge fish form again. Only this time, they will be able to take flight, slam to the ground to cause shockwave attacks, and will also be able toswim under the sludge and pop up to deal sneak attacksfrom below.

Cloud Step is your friend here, as this will allow you to avoid all of their hard-to-predict attacks during this period.

Then lastly, Zhu Bajie will also be able toturn into a Sludge Rhinoduring this phase, and will create a series of Rhino clones to rush and stampede toward the player.

It’s best to step back and try to keep your eyes on as many of these Rhinos as possible, because if you lose track of one, it will likely stomp all over you.

If you take Zhu Bajie’s HP down to zero during this Rhino attack, the battle will still continue, and you will need to land one more hit after this attack ends to conclude the fight. So if they are on 0HP, just ride it out until the end, and then finish them off.

But provided you can survive the stampede, you’ll gain a window when they fall to the ground to attack them, and this should be enough to deplete their HP and end this fight for good.

Rewards For Defeating Zhu Bajie

If you manage to defeat Zhu Bajie, you will gain the following rewards for your efforts:

While the Gold Thread is appreciated as it will allow you to craft more fine armor, the standout reward is the Jade Moon Rabbit Curio.

This Curio increases damage reduction, which doesn’t seem all that special, as theBoshan Censerdoes a similar thing.

However, when this is equipped alongside theGold Sun Crow, the damage reduction effect increases drastically. So it’s well worth using if you have both these items to hand.
