It has often been seen in today’s world that quippy humor and overused jokes are used to grab onto audiences about to leave the theater screens. With many movies relying on dad jokes and puns to bring a sense of comedy into the chaos, a balance between seriousness and comedy is aseriousissue (sorry).

Well, the DCAU, or DC Animated Universe strived hard to find the perfect balance between a world full of comedy and seriousness. Talking about their recently released DCAU magnum opus, the team behind the film talked about how they managed to find that perfect center point between comedy and seriousness and how they nailed it!

How The DCAU Team Found That Perfect “Balance”!

We don’t want to drop names but people have seen those movies where humor is often used to diffuse a situation. Well, not everyone knows how to put humor to good use and where it belongs since the DC Comics are a bit serious.

Adapting one of the most iconic comic events onto the big screens, the team at DCAU created the 2024 filmJustice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One(quite a mouthful). Well, the film managed to have the perfect balance between the seriousness of the multiverse and the comedy of some characters to alleviate the situation.

“We’d need twenty movies”: Original Plan for DCAU Forced Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Filmmakers into a Major Tradeoff

In an interview withComics Beat,Butch Lukic (the producer), Jim Krieg (the screenwriter), and Jeff Wamester (the director) sat down to talk about their latest project. When the interviewer asked about this so-called “balance” between comedy and seriousness, here’s what the team of DCAU had for an answer:

“I think part of it was led by Butch. We wanted these characters to have some consequences to it. But we didn’t want to cut so hard in terms of the seriousness of it where it didn’t feel like it was oppressively on top of you the entire time. There needed to be a balance. Jim brought a lot of humor and we just added a little bit of consequence. We were always bringing it back to being human.”

“It was kind of a truthful rumor”: Bruce Timm Wanted to Do a DCAU Show on the Most Underrated Jack Kirby Character after Batman

Well, this answer would have honestly made DCAU legendBruce Timmproud of his team. Although the point was made clear, Jim Krieg, the screenwriter ofJustice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Onecompared the DCAU’s humor to the humor of Marvel movies!

Marvel Vs. DC Humor!

No. We are not comparing or debating about whose humor is better. The screenwriter of the 2024 DCAU film already did that for us. Talking about Marvel and DC humor, Jim Krieg talked about how everyone is a comedian in Marvel movies and it isn’t quite the case in the realm of DC!

“The ‘Ragnarok’ of ‘sob scenes'”: Bruce Timm’s Favorite DCAU Episode of All Time isn’t Batman: The Animated Series

“It’s a different kind of comedy. Those Marvel movies are great, but there is a sense of everybody saying something funny and everybody is a comedian. Certainly, that was not what we were going for. “

With a rating of 6.3/10 on IMDB and a whopping 100% on Rotten Tomatoes,Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Onehas received great reviews. With more sequels on the way, it seems that the DCAU is going to be quite busy with the project.
