In a new interview with Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Head of Worldwide Studios, Hermen Hulst, the rumors of Guerrilla’sHorizon Zero Dawncoming to PCwere finally confirmed.Speaking with thePlayStation Blog, Hulst was asked about the rumors that had started swirling in recent months about the possibility ofÂHorizon Zero Dawnlanding on PC. “Yes, I can confirm that Horizon Zero Dawn is coming to PC this summer,” Hulst said simply. “There will be more information coming from Guerrilla, from the new studio directors [Michiel van der Leeuw, JB van Beek, and Angie Smets] pretty soon.“Expanding on the reason as to why PlayStation is looking to bring the game to PC, Hulst stated that it provides a new opportunity to show some new players what Sony has to offer. " I think itâs important that we stay open to new ideas of how to introduce more people to PlayStation, and show people maybe what theyâve been missing out on,” Hulst explained.
He also went on to make clear that just becauseÂHorizon Zero DawnÂis coming to PC doesn’t mean every single other first-party title will be getting the same treatment. “And to maybe put a few minds at ease, releasing one first-party AAA title to PC doesnât necessarily mean that every game now will come to PC. In my mind,Horizon Zero Dawnwas just a great fit in this particular instance,” Hulst said. “We donât have plans for day and date [PC releases], and we remain 100% committed to dedicated hardware.”
It’s definitely a fascinating decision to see PlayStation opt to bringÂHorizon Zero DawnÂto PC. As Hulst states, this seems to be Sony merely playing around with new ideas when it comes to bringing their games to new platforms, but the timing of this decision is also what makes it very intriguing. With thePS5 coming out later this year, the idea of Sony trying to convince those who normally might stick to the PC space to potentially start investing in their ecosystem seems like a good strategy. Additionally, with asequel forÂHorizon Zero Dawnsurely coming down the line, it also makes sense to continue building hype towards that release by bringing the original title elsewhere.
TheSteam page forÂHorizon Zero Dawn(what a strange thing to type) is also now live if you’d like to check the game out over there. There still aren’t details regarding specs or a release date, but we’ll surely hear more soon.
