What Are The Elements?
In Honkai Star Rail, there areseven different elementsthat characters use in battle.Every character will only have one element that they can use, except for The Trailblazerwho can switch, but starts out with the Physical element. The elements include:
As you may tell, while there are a few elements that in name are similar to those in Genshin, the elements present in Honkai Star Rail follow a completely different system. You won’t necessarily be creating Elemental Reactions in this game, but instead more so focusing on breaking an enemy’s weakness.

How To Use The Elements
In this section, we will go overevery tip to get you started on utilizing the elements properly in Honkai Star Rail. There is a lot you’re able to do to make sure you’re getting the most out of your characters and their abilities!
Weakness Attack
The first strategy you’ll want to be aware of isWeakness Attacks. Just above each enemy’s health bar is awhite bar that is their Toughness. The only way to deplete an enemy’s Toughness is byusing one of their weakness elements against them. The elements they are weak to will bejust above the Toughness bar, with usually two to three weaknesses in total. For example, if an enemy has the Ice symbol above them, using an Ice attack will deplete their Toughness. When their Toughness bar is completely emptied, this will trigger aWeakness Break.
Weakness Break
As soon as a Weakness Break occurs on an enemy, they will be incredibly vulnerable. Not only will theyreceive more damage from attacksnow, but their ownactions will be delayed, and they won’t be able to retaliate for a little while. Each element used to create a Weakness Break will have different effects on the enemy, as stated in the first section with all the elements. For example,if a character wielding the Lightning Element uses an attack that causes a Weakness Break on an enemy, they will deal Lightning DMG as well as apply the Shock effect, which will deal Lightning DoT (DoT stands for Damage over Time).
Once the enemy has experienced a Weakness Break, you can pretty much use any element against them now. Using Weakness Break isespecially useful against higher-level enemies,as you’ll be able to break their defense and more easily drain their health. With weaker enemies, you most likely will be able to defeat them before you even create a Weakness Break.

Techniques
Techniques are anExploration Skillthat every character has, with vastly different effects. This is the ability you can usejust before entering a battle with an enemy using the Skill button.Whenever you see an enemy from afar, just above them will appear the elements that they are weak to. For example,if they are weak to the Wind element, switch to a character who uses this element, and then you’ll want to sneak up behind them and attack them. This will give you a competitive edge at the beginning, and will break down their Toughness bar before the battle has even started.
Instead of only just approaching them and attacking them to begin the battle, you can alsoutilize your Technique skill beforehand. Each character will have a different Technique with different effects, withsome buffing their ATK stat for the next three turns, or others that can immediately attack the enemy and deal additional damage. To use your Technique, you’ll need to make sure you have enough technique points as it can only be used three times.

Team Compositions
The last important thing you’ll need to know about utilizing elements in the game ishow youset up your team. While you won’t necessarily be creating Elemental Reactions in Honkai Star Rail, choosing which characters to pair together will make a big difference.
For example, if you have Yanqing on your team who uses the Ice element, he will often create Freeze on enemies with his element. To make the chance of Freezing enemies higher, you can add Pela to the team who will buff Yanqing’s Effect Hit Rate. You’ll want to choose characters that willsupport your Main DPS and its element well, but also ensure to add differing elements so as not to box your team in. If there is only one element present, the team won’t be able to create Weakness Break as often on enemies.
