It has been more than two decades since the originalHellsinganime premiered. Kouta Hirano began serialization in 1997 and was adapted into an anime in 2001. The first anime only had 13 episodes, andHellsing: The Dawnhad ten episodes. All ten episodes were around an hour long, and the episodes were produced by separate animation studios.
One of the best things aboutHellsingis Alucard, the first and strongest vampire to ever live, who is a sworn protector of the Hellsing. The mangaka created him as the most dominant force in his story. At one point, there was no one left to challenge, and Hirano had to introduce another powerful character to rival the vampire.
Alucard Found The Perfect Rival In Father Anderson
Hellsinghas three factions the Hellsing Family, Millennium, and the Vatican Section 13. The Millennium were the antagonists who tried to bring back the Nazi reign by creating a battalion of vampires. There were several members in Section 13, like Yumie and Heinkel. Even though they were strong, they could not rival Alucard. For that reason,Kouta Hiranointroduced Father Alexander Anderson, who was an augmented human with superhuman strength and regenerative capabilities.

During aninterview, Hirano said,
Yumie and Heinkel already existed way before HELLSING was written, and back then, a character who Maxwell was based on also existed. If Anderson wasn’t there, it wouldn’t have become an organization where the thirteenth division would oppose the Hellsing Organization. Every character was too weak. I thought about a character that could go against Alucard and decided to create Anderson.
Father Anderson, even though an antagonist, appears to be an anti-villain. While he lives in Italy, his nationality remains unknown. His genetic modifications make him the perfect rival to Alucard. He was turned into a superhuman to hunt supernatural creatures. Anderson’s battle with Alucard has always been exciting and peak entertainment. Even Alucard enjoyed his fights with the antagonist since he was the only one who could challenge him to a dual in a century after Van Helsing.

Kouta Hirano’sHellsingmanga ran for almost eleven years. It has been adapted into different anime under the same series. However, the first anime remains the most popular one. Since the anime belongs to the Seinen genre, there are multiple gore scenes and bloodsheds. It has one of the most captivating plots, with three of the most powerful factions in the world. Hellsing and Section 13 Iscariot have the same motive of killing supernatural beings.

However, Hellsing has the first and strongest vampire, Alucard, and being a supernatural entity, is also a target for Iscariot. While Alucard and Father Anderson share the same motive, their different anatomy has made them rivals. Even though Anderson is seen as a human, his genetic modifications have almost made him a supernatural being. Nonetheless, fans are happy they are rivals; otherwise, they would have missed one of the greatest rivalries.
