The massive success and popularity ofSolo Levelingensure that it always remains a part of fan discussions. The active fanbase of the series still likes to arrive at different conclusions with the breakdown of plotlines seen in the series, and it’s interesting when we consider the nature ofSolo Levelingas a story. Majorly focused on Sung Jinwoo as a character, the series evidently fumbles in other aspects, but Jinwoo keeps us hooked till the end.

Sung Jinwoo at the beginning of Solo Leveling

During an interview,Solo Levelingvoice actors highlighted an important aspect of Jinwoo’s relationship with heroism in the series. He is unusual in many ways, but that sets him apart from many other fictional protagonists and helps him resonate with fans on a deeper level.

Sung Jin-woo Even Surprised the Voice Actors with his Reluctance to be a Hero

When one thinks about an immensely powerful main character, we expect them to use that power for the greater good. Sung Jinwoo defied that expectation as all he cared about were his loved ones. Until his powers became blatantly obvious to the world, he only used them for the protection of those around him and actively avoided engaging in high-stakes missions.

For instance, he protected Jinho, JoHee, and the team during dungeon missions, but initially refused to be a part of the Jeju Island raid. He never tried to be a hero or went out of his way to protect the general public.During an interview, the voice actors and producer of the anime shared their first impressions of Jinwoo.

All of them liked the realistic representation of the character’s emotions. Aleks Le, the English voice actor of Jinwoo, highlighted what appealed to him about the character.

What I found engaging was that, unlike a lot of other shows, he [Jinwoo] did try to be the hero, but he immediately regretted it, which I find to be a very realistic depiction of somebody’s range of emotions.

Despite knowing very well that he could easily power up in between a fight and defeat his opponent, Jinwoo was always reluctant to showcase his powers. He tried to stay away from attention for as long as he could. Whether it was self-doubt holding him back or just the need to keep his family safe, it was extremely human of him to feel these emotions.

Not becoming the savior of mankind right away made him more relatable to the audience. As the story progressed, he became more comfortable with using his power and authority to get things done. But, he still lacked the heroism that was expected from him as the strongest being.

Jinwoo’s Character Development inSolo Levelingis Fascinating

Up until the final fight in the series, we see Jinwoo gradually becoming more and more heroic with every decision he takes. However, he truly blossomed during the final fight. His character development was fascinating to witness as he made a difficult decision to save countless lives at the expense of his own journey. Although, he didn’t lose much as he still ended up with Cha Hae-In.

However, it was admirable to see him put aside his inhibitions and step up as a hero who saved the world. And, he did it all by himself. While the ability to power up without any limitations is as unrealistic as it gets, Jinwoo as a character was realistic to his core, and that’s part of what madeSolo Levelingso exciting for many fans.
