House of the Dragonseason 2 failed to reach the narrative heights of the first season. While theseasonbuilt momentum in the final episodes, it was not enough. Despite seeing some heartbreaking losses, the show still felt like it had not progressed narratively in a big way.

Fans Are Not Happy About Waiting Two Years forHouse of The DragonSeason 3

Before the streaming era, many shows back in the day consisted of 20+ episodes that came out consecutively the next year. The rollout was consistent and there was no significant yearly gap between seasons, However, for an 8-10 episode show in today’s time, some take 2-3 years to come back with a new season.

HBO’sHouse of the Dragonseason 3is set to shoot next year and will be a 2026 release, as told by showrunnerRyan Condal. On X, fans lamented the two-year gap between seasons and questioned why it takes that much time to come up with an 8 episode-show. Here are some of the reactions onX,

They need to shoot it right now; waiting 2 years after that horrific 2nd season makes zero sense!

So much delay. When game of thrones was released every year, why not this.Very lazy effort

— Karthik (@dkarthiks)July 16, 2025

This normalcy of having show seasons come out every 3 years is gross and I’m so off it. Season 1 was phenomenal so waiting was ok season 2 lost all that good faith so this is a bold move. With that being said will be there day 1 of course

— Moosey (@0nlyMeez)July 31, 2025

This two year cycle for shows has to stop. Shows aren’t any better than when they were on yearly cycles in the past, in fact, in many ways they’re worse. The wait between seasons is disgusting and and it raises expectations too high.

— Cody (@CrapCody)July 12, 2025

It ain’t that great to wait that long 🤷‍♂️

Other hit shows likeSeverancehave also received criticism from audiences for taking too much time between season 1 (2022) and 2 (an almost 3-year gap, season 2 coming in January 2025). It seems the studio/network observing the viewership number for shows before greenlighting new seasons may be the reason for delays. For now, fans can watch the first two seasons ofHouse of the Dragonon Max.
