Call of Dutydevelopers released a playlist update that removed the controversial Maelstrom Dual Trigger attachment. When attached to the Lockwood 300 shotgun, this attachment gave players the capacity to perform one-shot kills, thus giving them an unfair advantage.
Activision launched the Season 1 Reloaded update forWarzoneon January 17th, 2024. Ever since the Lockwood 300 shotgun started dealing way more damage with the Maelstrom Dual Trigger attachment than intended. It allowed players to gain an undue advantage over their opponents leading to global outrage amongst the gamers.
In reply to growing protests from players, the developers released a minor playlist update on August 16, 2025, to remove the attachment properties from the game for the time being.

Call of Duty: Warzonegamers took to X to showcase the insane abilities of the Maelstrom Dual Trigger attachment on Lockwood 300. The worst part is that it allowed players to penetrate fully plated enemies with a single shot.
This gave opponents no time to counter, and players rose in uproar against the attachment. People started raging over the attachment as they got annihilated by the opposition in the blink of an eye.

Millions of players around the globe echoed this X user’s dissent, while some labeled the uproar baseless.

Call of Duty Developers’ Statement Bring Relief to Players
In response to the major backlash, the officialCall of DutyX account stated that an update was released that disabled the Maelstrom Dual Trigger attachment in the game.

Players all around cheered this response as it brought about some respite. There were plenty of tweets in support of the decision on X.

Players will still be able to equip the attachment in their load-outs but it will function as the default trigger attachment for the time being. The developers have not yet specified any date of return for the attachment.
However, this situation was not the first regarding the Maelstrom Dual Trigger. In the December 19 update of 2023, the same attachment was disabled inCall of Duty: Warzoneafter facing severe community backlash due to its overpowering single-shot damage output.

Call of Duty: Warzonefans are rightly miffed about having to face the same issue twice within 30 days. They are likely going to demand the developers address why the same issue was resurfacing.
Disabling Maelstrom Twice in Warzone: Win for the Fans?
While theCall of Dutyfans are certainly heaving sighs of relief, what does this signify for the future? Will the Maelstrom Double Trigger make a return? If so, will it be properly revamped or will it continue disrupting the game as it did on the last two occasions?
One thing is clear, theCall of Dutydevelopers are playing tightrope with the fan following. With the rise of numerous other battle royale franchises, one can only hope that the developers focus on improving the actual flaws in the franchise.
