It is no secret that Metaphor takes a lot of inspiration fromPersonaand is pretty much its spin-off. While the game is smaller than most Persona games, it has no shortage of dungeons.
Metaphor: ReFantazioalso consists of some of the shortest dungeons made by Atlus. Not only does this greatly amplify the pacing of Metaphor, but it also allows you to experience each dungeon properly without the fear of it getting stale quickly (except for a few instances).

Metaphor: ReFantazio: Best Armor, Ranked
Equipment fit to become the king.
But regardless of how long or small each dungeon is, we are here for the difficulty, and with a ton of JRPG experience under my belt, I will be ranking each Metaphor: ReFantazio dungeon from the easiest to the hardest.
This list contains minor Metaphor: ReFantazio spoilers.
10Northern Border Fort
The Very Beginning
Your first stand-off against a dungeon withStrohlis a memorable one. It’s the easiest since you may’t die in this dungeon unless you are actively trying to.
While I can’t exactly call it a tutorial since you unlock your Archetype at the very end of this dungeon,it does, however, do a fantastic job of representing the grim reality of Metaphor’s world and introducing you to your firstHuman.

You can skip through most of the enemies and just run straight to the end of the dungeon (which I recommend doing). If you ever think that you are all alone, remember that Strohl has always had your back from day 1.
9Skyrunner Charadrius
The Massive Gauntlet Runner Of Louis
A rather unique dungeon that reminded me of the classic Metal Gear Solid 1 for some reason. TheSkyrunner Charadriusis a stealth-based dungeon in which you have to perform stealth takedown on common enemies, finishing a mini-boss at the end of each section, and collect their keycards.
The boss fights themselves are akin to theOkumura boss fightfrom Persona 5 Royal,in which you have to defeat all the enemies at the same time within 2 turns. Except here, you have to defeat the mini-boss within 3 turns.

Be sure to purchase information from the informant beforehand and use their weaknesses against them. Otherwise, there is really no other effective way to defeat them.
8Nord Mines
The First Challenge For Most Players
After the Northern Border Fort, this is widely considered the proper tutorial dungeon of Metaphor, due to you having a proper squad, and each party member having their ownArchetype.
Nord Mine is the place where you will familiarize yourself with the combat mechanics of Metaphor. It is also the first real challenge of the game, as you are pretty much required to finish the entire dungeon with only your available MP bar.

Be sure not to waste your MP on common enemies, especially if you are planning on taking theoptional dragonat the end of the dungeon.
7Montario Opera House
Welcome To High Society
Since you are forced only to use Will and Eupha in this dungeon,it really depends on what skills you have unlocked on both characters that will decide just how easy or difficult this dungeon is for you.
I only had the Seeker and Healer skills for Will and the Summoner Archetype for Eupha,so while it was really easy to defeat soldier with Affinity weakness pertaining to these archetypes, it was nightmare to deal with soldiers resitant to them.

Another thing that heightens the difficulty in the Opera House is that all enemies will focus their attacks on Eupha, and if she goes down, you lose. Aside from that, I hope you have MP recovery items for Will, as the game throws you straight into a boss fight with Louis at the end of the dungeon.
6Giant Sandworm’s Belly And Nest
I Hate That Fish
Since both the Giant Sandworm’s Belly and Nest are dungeons that you explore on the same day, I will list them as a single entry.
While the Belly dungeon is not really difficult by any means, the main reason why it fits the prompt is the existence of Homo Fios (the fishman).
Not only is it the worst and most annoying boss in Metaphor, as it is extremely difficult to hit it, but to add insult to injury, you are already on a very strict time limit. The fishman loves nothing more than to waste your time.
10 Best Turn-Based Cozy Games
Turn-based strategy can still be chill, we promise.
On the other hand, the main challenge of the Giant Sandworm’s Nest is the Heismay boss fight, which is also a rather annoying boss fight, easily making this section the worst dungeon in Metaphor.
5Regalith Grand Cathedral
Return To Form
The Cathedral is the first proper dungeon that will bring back all your experience from the Persona games. You are given an objective, a deadline, and freedom to explore. You can do side missions, or upgrade your bond or Royal Virtues on days you don’t feel like going to the dungeon.
But just because it is the first proper dungeon doesn’t mean that it’s easy, as you will certainly have a more difficult time in theRegalith Grand Cathedralthan most dungeons in Metaphor.
Besides being packed with normal enemies, the cathedral also consists of a few Human enemies that can easily flatline your team in one turn, provided that they get the jump on you first.
4Kriegante Castle
Dark, Mysterious, And Epic
Kriegante Castle is my favorite dungeon in Metaphor: ReFantazio, giving off a dark and mysterious vibe. With the occasional appearance of a mysterious Human hunting you down, you can’t help but wonder what dark secrets lie within these walls.
It is shorter than the Regalith Grand Cathedral, but it consists of some really tough enemies. The dungeon’spacingis also very well managed, as you don’t feel it getting stale throughout your time exploring.
With near-perfect difficulty scaling and pacing,I would put Kriegante Castle as the best dungeon in Metaphor if I could,as it neither feels impossible nor too long, making it a perfect challenge in my book.
3Tyrant Star
The Best XP Farm Location
The very last dungeon of Metaphor is also the best dungeon for farming XP and A-XP if you plan on unlocking all or at least the Royal Archetype for each character.
Since it is the best XP farm in the game, you don’t really need to worry about difficulty as you’re able to always just quickly level up if you feel underleveled. However, if you are focusing solely onboss fightsand ending the game, then this can easily become one of the hardest dungeons.
The Tyrant Star itself is filled with old bosses from optional and mandatory dungeons. If you wish to make the final boss weaker before fighting him, then you have to battle stronger versions of all the Humans that you have fought throughout the story.
2Skybound Avatar
Is This The Final Dungeon?
If you thought that this was the last dungeon when you started it, you are not alone. While the buildup for the Skybound Avatar is fantastic, this dungeon gets stale rather quickly due to its generic nature.
Skybound Avatar consists of four objects that you have to destroy, three of which require you to undertake an arduous journey through mazes and tough enemies (including the aforementioned fishman).
Being forced to do the same thing three times just to destroy these objects really damages the overall pacing of the Skybound Avatar dungeon.
In terms of difficulty itself, the dungeon is filled with tough fodder enemies. Plus, Zorba will give you a run for your money on how difficult his boss fight can be if you don’t have the right equipment or Achetype composition.
1Dragon Temple
Unforgiving And Painstakingly Long
After breezing through the Skyrunner Charadrius dungeon, the Dragon Temple is where players will notice a difficulty spike. Despite being a mid-game dungeon, you will have a very tough time with the Dragon Temple.
The best way to describe this dungeon is that it is too big for its own good. It took me 4 in-game days to fully explore and finish this dungeon. I had to leave because my party wasrunning out of MPevery day.
Putting aside combat difficulty for a moment, the level design of this dungeon is its true challenge. Both the Dragon Temples and the Lost Ruins within are humongous mazes that will have you fighting for your life all the time.
