Inti Creates, the developer behind theGalGunfranchise, hasfinally announced the release datefor its upcoming multi-platform gameGrim Guardians: Demon Purge. Set to launch on February 23rd 2023, Grim Guardians: Demon Purge will be a run-and-gun action platformer spun directly off from GalGun, with gothic imagery, gameplay, and action inspired by fellow Japanese developer Konami’sCastlevaniaseries.
Grim Guardians: Demon Purge stars the demon-hunting sisters Shinobu and Maya Kamizono, first seen inGal*Gun Double Peace, and is set shortly after the events of that game. Here in Grim Guardians: Demon Purge, the two sisters will be returning to school only to discover that the school itself has been changed into a demonic castle, with all the students still trapped inside. The sisters, being the inheritors of their family’s demon-hunting legacy, must take it upon themselves to restore the school, purge the demons, and save all the students caught in the fray.

As shown in the game’sinitial announcement trailer, each of the sisters will have her own unique skillset, and players will need to switch between the two as they progress through the stages. Those who wish to play with a friend will be able to do so, as the game will be offering a fully dedicated couch co-op mode at launch.
There will additionally be three difficulty levels for players to choose between, and according to the developers, the difficulty level can be changed as needed throughout the game. True to Castlevania tradition, the story won’t be affected by the difficulty setting or by any changes made to the difficulty partway through.
From hidden passages to gloomy rooms, many of the hallmarks of the Castlevania series will echo resoundingly throughout Grim Guardians: Demon Purge. Players will be exploring castle halls teeming with enemies in order to uncover more of the mystery behind the high school’s inexplicable transformation.
Although best known for its Gun*Gal series of rail shooters, developer Inti Creates is certainly no newcomer to the action-platformer genre, having previously worked on games such asMega Man Zero, Azure Striker Gunvolt, andBloodstained: Curse of the Moon, which was also inspired by the Castlevania series.
With many of these titles being of such a high caliber as to be considered classics of the genre, fans are hoping, if not expecting, that Grim Guardians: Demon Purge will be of similarly outstanding quality. At the same time, Gal*Gun fans are looking forward to seeing the demon-hunting Kamizono sisters return for another exhilarating adventure when the game launches on February 23rd next year.
