A live-action adaption ofGolden Kamuywas announced on June 14, 2025, surprising fans of the anime worldwide.
Golden Kamuyfans are all on the edge of their seats for several months now, as the original manga has entered its final arc and climax,with only a few chapters left until the ending.Golden Kamuyis one of the most popular ongoing action manga. The story ingeniously mixes a 20th-century setting with the secret of a legendary gold stash stolen from the Ainu in the cold north of Japan.
In the manga and anime, we follow Japanese imperial soldier Sugimoto and Ainu girl Asirpa as they attempt to find the gold for themselves. And the live-action series will be facing a major challenge when it comes to accurately depicting early 20th century Japan and Ainu culture.
Shueisha Announces a Golden Kamuy Live-Action Adapation Via Manga Volume 29
The announcement was made by Shueisha with the release ofGolden Kamuy volume 29 on July 25, 2025, with the volume’s wrap cover. Nothing else was shared as of now. Nothing on the cast and staff was revealed yet. However, we can safely assume several actors and actresses of Ainu descent, especially for Asirpa, should be cast.
One of the strongest points ofGolden Kamuyis its incredible and intricate depiction of Ainu culture. The manga’s original author Satoru Noda constantly lists the Ainu references and books he uses at the end of each volume. And the manga as a whole issupervisedby a specialist in Ainu history, Dr. Hiroshi Nakagawa. One thing for sure is that it won’t sit well with fans worldwide if the live adaptation ofGolden Kamuydoesn’t go to similar lengths to properly depict its story and characters.
The Original Manga Has Over 19 Million Printed Copies in Circulation in Japan Alone
To celebrate the ending of the manga, all of theGolden Kamuychapters arecurrently readable onlinefor free in Japan too, from chapters 1 to 311. Meanwhile, the final volume of the series, Golden Kamuy Volume 31, is scheduled to release in July 2022 in Japan.
