God of War Ragnarök’s updated combat and enemies got an official rundown in a trailer released yesterday. The trailer features many of the game’s developers, who are helping to bring the epic tale to life before its launch early next month.
As reported earlier this month,Ragnarök has gone gold, meaning the game is in a complete state ahead of its November 9 release date. The game follows Kratos and Atreus three years after the events that concluded in 2018’s God of War reboot. With that amount of time passing, both the characters and game mechanics have evolved.

In the combat trailer released on theofficial PlayStation YouTube Channelon October 25, many of Sony Santa Monica’s VFX artists, gameplay animators, and combat designers spoke on what players can expect in just a few short weeks. On display were plenty of new locales and enemy designs, but what really drew attention was the expansion of both Kratos and Atreus' utility in combat.
Kratos' signature Blades of Chaos will gain the series-familiar blade grapple, which will allow players to grab and launch themselves at enemies. This skill will also allow for more mobility in and out of combat, as Kratos is shown stabbing the blades into a platform to quickly pull himself up. Outside the Blades of Chaos, the developers spoke on expanding Kratos' shield options to further match how players will approach combat. Some shields will offer better parry benefits while others will provide better blocking, which should cover both aggressive and more cautious play styles.
Atreus, now three years older, is shown acting more confident in combat while using unique magic and some surprisingly heavy rage-filled strikes. The developers also mentioned that player interactions, mini-games, and puzzles involving Atreus would be more involved this time around, as his move set has expanded.
Outside of combat, enemy designs will differ depending on the realm you visit. Alfheim, for example, was home to the dark elves in the previous title but will also feature light elves as adversaries for the father-and-son team. In terms of bosses, more mini and major bosses, some almostas big as the download size of the game, were promised to provide more challenge to players really looking to sink their teeth into battle.
