WithHouse of the Dragonpreparing to start filming season 3 in 2025, we came across an old Q&A video of the man who started it all, George R.R. Martin himself. In the 2022 interview posted byPenguin, Martin can be heard addressing his excitement for the HBO prequel and speaking about his expectations from the show.

Meanwhile, reading a questionnaire card that asked him about which scene fromFire & Bloodhe’s waiting to get adapted into the show,George R.R. Martinresponded with one of the most iconic and heart-pounding scenes. As per the interview, Martin claimed to be eagerly awaiting the moment whenHouse of the Dragonbrings to life theBattle Above the God’s Eye.
What scene from Fire & Blood are you most excited to see brought to the screen? Ughh… well, yeah the battle over the god’s eye.

Considering how this dramatic showdown, as described in hisFire & Bloodnovel, is one of the most anticipated moments in the Targaryen saga—an explosive clash between Daemon and Aemond Targaryen—George R.R. Martin was undoubtedly right to pick it as his favorite. However, considering the outcome of the battle, it’s also one of the scenes that fans are dreading about.
Fans ofFire & Bloodhave been dreading facing Daemon and Aemond’s potential demise
While Martin might be excited about the action and drama of theBattle Above the God’s Eye,fans ofFire & Bloodhave a very different reaction. For those who have read the book and know what’s coming, there’s an undeniable sense of dread looming over season 3. As per the source material, the final battle features dragons soaring through the sky, with Daemon and Aemond Targaryen having a deadly confrontation.
“It would certainly make their final confrontation more dramatic”: House of the Dragon Can Breathe Life Into the Weirdest Aemond Targaryen Fan-Fic That Will Upset Book Fans But is Absolutely Plausible
Getting into the details, the scene begins with Alys watching Battle Above the Gods Eye from the Kingspyre Tower of Harrenhal. Thereafter, in the dramatic sequence, Daemon rides his dragon Caraxes to face off against Aemond and his dragon Vhagar. As the battle commences, the clash between the dragons illuminates the skies of God’s Eye with dragonfire, while simultaneously lighting up the lake below.
The fight starts with the two dragons attacking each other, wherein Caraxes strikes Vhagar’s neck, leading the latter to retaliate by attacking his belly. Meanwhile, as the dragons duel between themselves, Daemon jumps from Caraxes’ back onto Vhagar, and in a dramatic moment shoves his sword into Aemond’s empty eye socket.

This leads Daemon and Aemond Targaryen to fall from the sky, and presumably die in the battle, followed by Caraxes and Vhagar’s fall to death. Therefore, considering how two of the most powerful Targaryen men are set to mark a thrilling battle, it would undoubtedly be epic for George R.R. Martin to see his words transform into imagery. However, for fans, while they are excited for the thrilling moment, they are also dreading the tragic end.
House of the Dragonis currently available to watch on Max.
