Even though it’s been five years since the hugely popular HBO showGame of Thronesconcluded in a fiery, and controversial, end, its video game franchise hasn’t had the same run of luck, falling into the same type of void as The Lord of the Rings franchise. Although Telltale’s dip into the game sparkedsomepositive impressions, it lacked the excitement and lore of George RR Martin’s other fantasy adventures likeElden Ring.

While it was reported that Nexon, the Korean publisher behindDave the Diver, would be tackling the fantasy title in a massively multiplayer online role-playing game, it has been discovered that the company isn’t developing the Game of Thrones MMO but is being made as an MMORPG for mobile devices by Netmarble.

Game of Thrones MMO Isn’t On The Cards

Originally reported by The Witcher enthusiasts,Redanian Intelligence, who announced that a new Game of Thrones MMO would be arriving and set between Seasons 4 and 5 of the show in the snowy and formidable location of The North, has now had to correct this information by saying “Our source has clarified that it’s not NEXON as they previously claimed, but instead NETMARBLE. This is the mobile game that was announced a while back. We apologize for our source’s confusion.”

To clarify the situation further, a spokesperson from Nexon toldIGNthat this was in fact the case and that the company isn’t a part of the game’s creation, stating “(Nexon) does not currently have anything in development based on Game of Thrones,” The confusion seems to stem from the mobile company’s already highlighted 2022 Game of Thrones MMORPG which was announced during the 5th Netmarble Press event that included ateaser trailerof what they have up their sleeves.

The short teaser showed off a massive visual of The Wall as a character that looks very similar to the iconic character John Snow riding a horse through some stunning locations. Of course, it wouldn’t be Game of Thrones without a dragon as we see the beast burning through an army of people before the short clip ends with the chilling stare of the Night King.

Although the details reported by Redanian Intelligence regarding its storyline still rings true, unfortunately, Game of Thrones fans will have another long wait on their hands if they are looking for the next Westeros MMO. If it ever happens, that is.
