It’s particularly disheartening to see that some video games, that had a lot of potential, failed due to technical issues, poor marketing, or a bad release window.

Some of these games even received positive reviews from critics but they just couldn’t meet the sales expectations. 5)Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist

The sixth installment of theSplinter Cellseries,Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist, was released for PlayStation 3, Windows, Wii U, and Xbox 360 in August 2013. This was the firstSplinter Cellgame starring Eric Johnson as Sam Fisher, instead of Michael Ironside.

Its open post-apocalyptic wasteland consisting of deserts, canyons, and caves perfectly replicated the setting in theMad Maxmovies. 2)Sunset Overdrive

Insomniac Games’ 2014 action-adventure video gameSunset Overdrivewas praised for its visuals, traversal system, and combat system. The unique and bold approach was appreciated. However, the game didn’t sell a lot of units, roughly 1.9 million units to be precise.

Square Enix’s 2021 gameMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxywas released roughly one year after thedisappointing release ofMarvel’s Avengers, so the expectations withGOTGwere very low. To everyone’s surprise, the game turned out to be highly engaging thanks to its narrative, music, characters, and combat.
