A weakness typical to archers in theFire Emblemseries is vulnerability. While they are able to attack enemies from afar, they are helpless once that distance is closed. Furthermore, their typically low mobility means that they struggle to escape from approaching enemies. Therefore, archers require skillful placement and maneuvering to get the most out of their superior range. Once promoted, however, many archers proceed into a mounted class, often known as the Bow Knight.

This class provides superior mobility, and sometimes an additional weapon. InFire Emblem: Engage, Prince Fogado joins your army and shows just how powerful the combination of mobility and range can truly be. While he initially seems quite similar to other Bow Knights, Fogado possesses unique talents that require extra consideration. With the right support and strategy, he will become a powerful fighter against the Fell Dragon, and help lead you to victory.

Growth Rates

As you will notice, Fogado possesses fantastic growth in nearly every stat. He is tied for the highest Speed in the game, boasts great Strength for a bow unit, and sports surprisingly solid defenses for a ranged unit. Unfortunately, his dexterity is not the highest out there, but with his high base and class bonuses he makes up for the low growth quite well. Fogado also possesses by far the highest Magic stat of the archers in Engage, making him possibly the best candidate to use the powerful Radiant Bow once you unlock it.

Best Classes

Like the other royalty in Engage, Fogado possesses an exclusive class, in this case, the Cupido. This class resembles a sword-specialized Bow Knight, with slightly altered growths, lower Strength, higher Magic, and slightly higher Defense and Resistance. In addition to the stats,Cupido also grants access to a unique skill, Back at You. This skill gives Fogado a chance to return half of the damage dealt to him when counterattacking, an odd choice of skill for an archer.

That is not to say he cannot make good use of this skill, as his Defense, Resistance, and HP are quite solid, but it is not so powerful that he shouldn’t consider other classes. The previously mentioned Bow Knight is an option if you’d like Fogado to use lances or axes instead of his default swords, while Wyvern Knight is a solid option if you already have plenty of bow users on your team.

Best Weapons

As mentioned above, Fogado is likely the best user of the Radiant Bow there is, unless you reclass a magic-focused unit. It will allow him to deal heavy damage to high-Defense units, which typically shrug off hits from bows with ease. Outside of this, his good Build stat lets him make great use of Steel, Silver, and even Brave bows. The Killer Bow can be used to augment Fogado’s potentially weak Dexterity, giving him a solid chance to deal out critical strikes. Once promoted, he will have access to swords as well, with options like the Levin Sword, Silver Sword, and Wyrmslayer making great additions to his arsenal.

Best Emblem Rings

Fogado is one of the few royals that does not join your army equipped with an Emblem Ring, leaving it up to you to decide who he is best paired with. Luckily, in the chapter before recruiting Fogado, you unlock Lyn, a phenomenal paring for him. She provides extra Speed, Dexterity, and multiple excellent skills that pair perfectly with Fogado’s strengths. He also makes good use of Lucina and Sigurd, the former being focused on assisting allies within range with a nice boost to Dexterity to boot, while the latter grants ridiculous movement, extra safety through Canter, and a nice bonus to damage from Momentum.

Best Skills

Alcryst’s best options for skills come from Lyn and Sigurd, mentioned above. These skills are fantastic on any Speed-focused unit, further augmenting his already strong offensive potential. An odd, but powerful choice for skill is Wrath. Thanks to Fogado’s good HP, Defense, and Resistance, he can easily drop into the health range required, providing a huge boost to Crit while low on health. Combined with Alacrity and smart maneuvering, Fogado can deal incredible levels of damage while dancing with death.
