Fire Emblem: Engageis bringing more to the series with its colorful cast and new mechanics. Playing through, old cast members can be utilized in battle, teaming up with them to become more powerful. With this, there are a ton of variables that add up to how powerful a character can actually be. Most of these variables can be changed to some degree to become the best in their class or whichever class they’ve been changed to. Fighting is the core mechanic, being a tactical turn-based RPG. Characters are not only vicious while engaged in combat, but they can also be knocked out of the battlefield and get hurt.

This can result in characters being either too injured to ever fight again or pass away. There are high risks to each fight, especially when it’s possible to have your entire team wiped out. Team members can be obtained throughout the game, presenting a diverse and unique cast of characters to obtain and fight alongside. Each character has its own specialties and weaknesses, and planning accordingly is crucial to safely push through foes ahead. Even the weapons that characters equip have their own stats, fitting to only certain characters.

Who Is Amber?

Amber’s a romantic person whose origins can be traced back to an alpaca farm. He’s smart and has good intentions, if not a bit mischievous. Being told legends and fables of old, he always dreamed of becoming a great hero. Upon growing up, he pursued his goal; he wanted to be a knight in Brodia. He became the retainer to Diament, Brodia’s Crown Price, in return for his hard work. Amber has a love for animals, grown from his past on the alpaca farm. He is first seen and joins the team in Chapter 8: Kingdom of Might.

Base Build & Stat Growth

This knight’s specialty is his strength, defense, and speed. His strength is the best out of the three, with the other two being around average. With all three of these stats being consistent, he can be out on the battlefield as a powerful fighter to come up against. He is not fit for magic, and will not do good with any magical weaponry. He has terrible magic growth and starts out with barely any on top of that. The best characters for him to pair up with are characters who have good resistance, magic, and health stat.

Characters like Mauvier, Chloe, or Pandero might be good options to fight alongside Amber. His personal skill is Aspiring Hero. When no one else on the team is within one space of an enemy, Amber is granted 20+ hit for the cost of -10 avoidance. This can be useful when alongside another team member in battle, yet is risky when Amber is taking more hits with the avoidance cost.

Stat Growth

Base Stats

Looking at his stats, not only does he have poor magic, he has poor resistance. He won’t have much luck against magical enemies and fighting with magic. He’s got really got strength, being able to physically fight through the battlefield well. With his fighting style Calvary, he has the strength to fight alongside others. He will not do too well against foes by himself, along with being on the front lines. He’s a powerful fighter, but he isn’t fit to lead the battle by himself, and if he is to be at the front, he to not be there too long. He’s not backup despite this, though.

Good Classes For Amber

Being a Great Knight suits Amber well, using Aspiring Hero to his benefit. This will utilize his speed, strength, and defense, suiting the cavalry fighting style just right. In the Great Knight Class, he’s best paired with a character who’s got high magic and good defense.

He’s not meant to completely take hits for his team members, so pairing him up with a character that has poor defense will wipe them both out on the battlefield. While the Great Knight class fits Amber will be using more physical weaponry in his run, as he can’t handle the magic abilities of things such as the Flame Lance. Heavier weapons will do ok with Amber, but it’s best not to give him the heaviest weapons of the entire team.

Amber Speaking to Mauvier in Fire Emblem Engage

The Silver Sword, Axe, or Lance is a very good weapon for Amber starting out, as they have no downsides or upsides besides it being a bit weaker than other weapons. The Silver Greatlance is a step up from the Silver Lance, giving Amber a better chance to wipe the battlefield when he attacks. Using the Spear or Tomahawk gives Amber an option to fight from far away, being a ranged weapon. Using the Brave Lance can give Amber up to four hits per turn, depending on how high his speed is. The Hammer or Armorslayer can slay through foes who have armor on them.

Suiting that Calvary fighting style, he can also fit into the Paladin class. This doesn’t change his original stats too much. He won’t be as focused on Defense as when he’s in Great Knight, so taking the hits for others won’t be as much of a focus for him. His main focus will be on fighting alongside his fellow teammates and being able to traverse the battlefield with ease.

Amber as a Great Knight in Fire Emblem Engage

The Silver Lance is a good base to go off of, while the Silver Greatlance is a good weapon to use with greater power. The Brave Lance can hit hard, up to four times per turn with Amber’s speed.
