The Buster Sword is one of the most iconic weapons in gaming, andFinal Fantasy 7: Crisis Core Reunion allows you to wield it as its previous owner, Zack. Zack is a friend of Cloud’s and is the one who initially gets the Buster Sword but is not initially wielding it in the beginning sections of Crisis Core Reunion.

While it is fun to play as a SOLDIER First Class in their prime during the events that kick off Final Fantasy 7’s story, the sword is currently in the hands of its first own Angeal. We see Angeal use the sword and learn about its origins and meaning beyond just its iconic looks, and we do eventually wield it for a good portion of the game.

When Do You Get The Buster Sword

The beginning of the game has Zack wielding a regular SOLIDER sword, but his eventuallyreceiving the Buster Sword is tied to the story. Getting the Buster Sword does not change your current combat combos, but it also offersthe Buster Sword proficiency stats.

Players will receive the Buster Swordat the end of Chapter 5,afterthe death of Angeal.The first fight of Chapter 6 will see Zack fighting with a beach umbrella, which is quite funny. Shortly after this scene is thefirst full section of Chapter 6,seeing Zack with his new longer hair and Buster Sword.

Buster Sword Proficiency

Using the Buster Sword gives Zack theability to use Battle Stance.This ismuch like Punisher Mode in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, offering more damage while attacking slower. Fighting in this stance will increase your proficiency, offering Zack more abilities to recover your MP/AP in battle or break the current damage limiters, allowing you todeal 99,999 damage in a single attack.Abilities learned from Buster Sword proficiency are only applied while in the Buster Sword battle stance, quicklymaking it the best way to play as Zack and deal the most damage.

You must fight in the new battle stance to increase the Buster Sword proficiency.Defeating enemies with a strong attackin this battle stance,defeating enemieswith command materiawhile in this battle stance, andblocking attacksall give you small percentageincreases to your buster sword proficiency.You are alsoonly able to earn 0.57% proficiency per battle, forcing you to spread out the increase of your proficiency over many battles. This can bequickly farmed in missions with multiple easy battlesthat can be run through fast.Zack’s proficiency with the Buster Sword does max out at 95%,which may narratively mean he never fully mastered the sword before it was time for him to pass it on to Cloud.
